Senior Software Developer

Position Title : RQ11627 – Software Developer – Senior Location: Oshawa /Toronto, Ontario Mode: Contract Position Overview A Successful candidate will be responsible for translating technical and business requirements into high-quality, secure, scalable, and maintainable applications. The role will involve application development, integration, database technologies, performance tuning, release and change management, application monitoring, and production support. The incumbent will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, architects, QA professionals, project managers, and other IT specialists throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Mandatory Requirements Solid and current programming knowledge, ideally including Java.Experience with low-code platforms, particularly Microsoft Power Apps.Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Azure DevOps.Solid understanding of Windows and Linux server operating systems.Experience assessing and testing technically focused Change Requests (CRQs).Ability to create and maintain user and system documentation.Experience conducting user experience research and translating user stories into viable product enhancements.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and consistently meet project deadlines. Key Responsibilities Translate technical systems specifications and business requirements into fully functional, tested applications.Develop detailed programming specifications and write, generate, compile, and maintain application code.Design, develop, test, debug, document, and maintain software applications.Perform unit testing and participate in integration, system, and release testing activities.Provide end-to-end solution design, development, and unit testing aligned with business requirements, Cluster reference architecture, and Ministry objectives.Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to software applications, databases, middleware, operating systems, and production environments.Provide technical assistance during application implementation, conversion, migration, deployment, and post-implementation support.Assess and test technically focused Change Requests (CRQs) and update them as required.Participate in application releases, production promotions, implementations, patching, and related deployment activities.Design and implement REST API integrations using established standards and best practices.Diagnose and resolve data integrity, security, configuration, performance, and recovery issues.Perform performance tuning, including analysis and optimization of queries, indexes, databases, and server performance.Support backup and recovery processes and ensure appropriate recovery procedures are followed.Work with Oracle 19c, DB2/Windows, and other relational or hierarchical database technologies.Support Windows and Linux-based server environments.Work with middleware and gateway technologies, including installation, configuration, administration, tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.Participate in application monitoring and ongoing operational support.Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business objectives and translate user stories into viable product enhancements.Conduct user experience research and contribute to improvements in application usability and functionality.Work effectively within Agile development environments and structured software development methodologies.Conduct thorough code reviews and ensure appropriate unit testing and software quality standards.Identify, manage, and mitigate technical risks and issues associated with solution designs.Incorporate security requirements into application and solution designs and comply with OPS security standards and policies.Provide technical support to developers, testers, users, and other project team members.Create and maintain comprehensive technical, user, system, and architecture documentation.Conduct design walkthroughs and knowledge-transfer sessions with project teams.Produce technical reports, project updates, and other documentation as required.Promote industry standards, development best practices, and quality practices across product teams. Required Technical Skills and Experience Strong and current programming experience, preferably including Java.Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Apps or other low-code development platforms.Strong understanding and practical experience with Azure DevOps.Experience with GitHub and modern development technologies.Strong understanding of Windows and Linux server operating systems.Experience with relational and hierarchical database technologies.Solid working knowledge of Oracle 19c and DB2/Windows.Strong knowledge of SQL and query-based information retrieval.Demonstrated experience in database and server performance tuning.Ability to diagnose and optimize queries, indexes, and server performance.Understanding of backup and recovery concepts and processes.Experience with middleware and gateway technologies.Experience installing, configuring, tuning, administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting middleware software.Experience with application development, deployment, monitoring, and production support.Experience with REST API development and integrations.Knowledge of communications protocols and Internet-ready applications.Experience with change management and release management processes supporting large-scale applications.Experience with structured methodologies for application design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance.Ability to analyze and resolve data integrity, security, configuration, and recovery issues.Experience assessing and testing technical Change Requests (CRQs).Experience participating in release promotions, implementations, and patching activities.
