Senior Python Backend Engineer

A leading Financial Services (Energy Trading) firm is looking for a Backend Engineer specialising in Python and FastAPI/Django to design and build real time platforms used within highly specialised financial markets. You will take ownership of features from concept to production, solving complex distributed systems problems. This is an opportunity to join at an early stage within this specific business function without all the processes being too established that you are stuck working as a cog in the wheel. It is also a good chance to get exposure to the stakeholder management side as there is a lot of undefined requirements still needing ironing out. The Core Tech Stack: Python | FastAPI/Django | PostgreSQL | Kubernetes | REST APIs | Docker | CI/CD What You Will Do: Design scalable APIs and high-performance microservices leveraging the Python and FastAPI/Django ecosystem.Optimise data layers and query performance within PostgreSQL relational databases.Deploy, scale, and maintain distributed backend systems containerised via Docker and orchestrated within Kubernetes environments.Implement modern engineering practices, ensuring high test coverage, robust version control, and seamless continuous integration (CI/CD pipelines). What We Are Looking For: Backend Engineering Experience: Strong track record of writing production grade, asynchronous Python code.System Design Expertise: Solid understanding of software architecture, data modeling, and RESTful API design patterns.Cloud & Infrastructure: Familiarity with containerised workflows using Kubernetes and cloud environments This role is going up to £115,000 for the top range and is looking at providing an annual bonus too! It is expected candidates will be in office 2/3 days a week in London so no VISA sponsorship/relocation provided.
