This initial 12-month contract positions, with a strong possibility of extensions for high-performing contractors due to a significant product backlog. The role is based in the Brisbane CBD and require you to work from the office five days per week. While this is an office-based positions, there is flexibility around start and finish times, giving you some freedom to structure your working day. You'll join a highly experienced software engineering team developing technology that connects mining equipment, operational systems and real-time machine data to help mining operations manage, monitor and optimise their fleets. This is an opportunity to work on complex, large-scale software where what you build has a direct connection to equipment operating in real-world mining environments. The Opportunity Modern mining equipment generates significant volumes of data from sensors, onboard systems, machine models and control technologies. You'll join a multidisciplinary Agile engineering team responsible for building and evolving enterprise software that brings this information together to support real-time fleet management, tracking, monitoring and operational control within underground mining environments. As a Java Software Engineer, you'll work across the full software development lifecycle - contributing to architecture and technical design, developing new capabilities, improving existing services and ensuring the platform remains reliable, secure and maintainable. What You'll Be Doing Design, develop and maintain Java-based applications and services supporting underground fleet management technology.Build scalable microservices and distributed systems operating in complex mining environments.Develop clean, maintainable and well-tested software using Java, Spring and Spring Boot.Design and integrate RESTful APIs, databases and supporting services.Take features from refinement and estimation through development, testing and release.Work closely with Product, Engineering and Quality Engineering teams.Contribute to technical architecture, solution design and engineering decisions.Participate in code and design reviews and help improve engineering standards across the team.Build quality, security, resilience and automated testing into software from the outset.Investigate production issues, perform root-cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions.Take ownership of technical outcomes and communicate risks, dependencies and progress.Mentor other engineers through pairing, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
