Senior Technical Lead – Software Engineering Rate Guide: $130–$150 per hour, inclusive of superannuation Location: Canberra ACT, Sydney NSW or Perth WA Contract Duration: 12 months, with one optional 12-month extension Estimated Start Date: 24 December 2026 Maximum Hours: 40 hours per week Security Clearance: Current or reinstatable Baseline clearance required Experience Level: Senior – EL1 equivalent Working Arrangements: Hybrid – three days per week in the office Babylon Data is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead – Software Engineering to lead the development and enhancement of digital services supporting Australian businesses. Working within a multidisciplinary Agile team, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across ASP.NET Core, React, TypeScript, Azure DevOps, Web APIs and SQL Server. The broader technology environment includes headless content management, Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365 and bespoke web applications. This role requires a technically strong and collaborative leader who can guide developers and testers, contribute to solution design and remain actively involved in solving complex engineering challenges. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and development of bespoke ASP.NET Core web applications.Develop Web APIs using ASP.NET Core and Entity Framework Core.Lead the delivery of responsive web solutions using React, TypeScript and JavaScript.Develop and maintain integrations with headless content management platforms.Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to developers and testers.Work closely with product managers, architects, designers, analysts and other developers.Contribute to technical architecture, solution design and engineering decisions.Manage and maintain CI/CD build and release pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git.Organise and coordinate application deployments across relevant environments.Conduct system analysis and investigate complex technical problems.Work collaboratively to troubleshoot defects and implement effective resolutions.Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, extensible and maintainable.Support technical capability uplift, knowledge sharing and process improvement.Contribute effectively within a collaborative Agile delivery environment. Essential Criteria Applicants must demonstrate: Experience leading development teams and building software using modern Microsoft technologies and cloud platforms.Advanced experience with Microsoft .NET Core, specialising in ASP.NET Core.Strong commercial experience with React, TypeScript and JavaScript.Experience using Azure DevOps and Git.Experience building and consuming Web APIs.Experience using Entity Framework Core with Microsoft SQL Server.Experience developing web experiences using headless CMS platforms.Demonstrated ability to provide technical direction within a collaborative Agile environment.Experience managing automated build and release pipelines using Azure DevOps or comparable CI/CD tools.Strong technical design, system analysis and problem-solving capabilities.Experience delivering scalable, extensible and maintainable software solutions.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work effectively across technical disciplines and with non-technical stakeholders.A current or reinstatable Australian Government Baseline security clearance. Desirable Criteria Experience with Kontent.ai or a comparable headless CMS platform.Familiarity with the Australian Government Digital Service Standard.Experience delivering Australian Government digital services.Tertiary qualifications in information technology, computer science, software engineering or a related discipline.Relevant Microsoft, Azure, Agile or software engineering certifications.
