Description

The Operations Automation Engineer builds and maintains the automation that lets DMSi Cloud Engineering deploy, configure, and recover systems without manual, repetitive work standing in the way. This role owns deployment pipelines, configuration management, and infrastructure-as-code, turning error-prone manual steps into tested, repeatable, and reversible processes across DMSi’s AWS and Progress OpenEdge environments. The role partners closely with the team that carries day-to-day operations, converting recurring manual work and automation gaps into permanent, measurable fixes. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Design, build, and maintain automated deployment pipelines for application code, database schema changes, and environment updates across production and non-production systems.Develop and maintain configuration management automation (e.g., Ansible) so configuration changes are consistent, auditable, and repeatable across the fleet.Build and extend infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) so environments can be provisioned, changed, and torn down predictably rather than by hand.Build and improve CI/CD pipelines that move code and configuration through test, approval, and production stages with appropriate gates and rollback paths.Identify manual, repetitive operational work, prioritize it by time saved and risk reduced, and convert it into automation with measurable results reported back to the team.Partner with the operations team to root cause automation-related incidents and close the gap between documented procedure and actual system behavior.Document automation design decisions and operating procedures so the work is maintainable by others and not dependent on any one person.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working proficiency with a configuration management tool such as Ansible. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or CloudFormation. Scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell, with the judgment to know when a manual process should become code. Experience building or maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps). Working knowledge of AWS cloud environments. Clear, direct communication and the ability to explain a technical tradeoff to both engineers and non-engineers. Exposure to Progress OpenEdge (PASOE) application server environments and observability tooling (e.g., Dynatrace, Elastic, PagerDuty) is a plus. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience. 3+ years building deployment automation, configuration management, or infrastructure-as-code in a production environment. Experience in a multi-tenant SaaS or managed hosting environment preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Normal office environment with use of computers and telephone systems; no unusual physical demands. Travel to customer locations as needed, including overnight stays, business air travel, and car rentals.
