Senior Backend Software Engineer

Location - 100% Remote – Poland, Bulgaria, Romania Who we are looking for Covantis is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Back-End) who loves (and is good at) solving hard yet exciting engineering problems and bringing new products and features to life. What you will do As a Senior Software Engineer at Covantis, you will work across multiple products in our portfolio (we currently have 5) to develop and improve features that directly address real-life problems in the supply chain operations. Your first assignment will be Covantis QuickDocs – an AI-powered product aimed at simplifying shipping and trade documents verification, accuracy and consistency checking. It’s a gamechanger for the industry with the high operational risk where a simple mistake in a document can easily cost you tens of thousands of dollars per day due to delays. Work directly with a Product Manager and a Designer to understanding business cases and user needs and shape/design a solution together, consulting the rest of the team and Engineering Manager when necessary. We expect you to not only decide on how to implement things from the technical perspective, but brainstorm with the PM or the Designer helping define what the solution to the problem would even be. Collaborate with other developers to deliver complex solutions for automating or digitalising all sorts of processes in supply chain operations. Participate in technical design discussions. Produce technical documentation as needed in support of complex technical concepts, write ADRs for topics requiring complex decision making and cross-team alignment. Build web-application back-end and front-end. We also support and encourage contributions beyond that – to infra, org-level policies and practices etc. Deliver code to production using CI/CD and best DevOps practices. Be involved in all phases of software development life cycle: implementing new features or changes to existing features, writing tests, fixing bugs/defects, doing code reviews, deploying to production, responding to incidents etc. Occasionally help other teams working on other products if they happen to have a particularly challenging case or a tight deadline. Our Tech Stack Node.js, Nest.js, React, Jest/Vitest, MUI on Covantis Voyages, Tailwind on other products, Refine, Storybook, Chromatic, Playwright, Postgres/RDS, Redis/ElastiCache, Kafka/MSK, S3, K8s/EKS and other managed services in AWS, Terraform, GitLab, Elastic Languages Fluent English is a must Experience and Required Hard Skills Senior-level, 5+ years of experience in software engineering. 2+ years of experience in developing back-end for web apps using a common web framework. Strong experience any high-level strongly typed programming language. Familiar with best practices in architecture, performance, security etc. Strong advocate for testing, experience with modern testing frameworks and best practices. Experience with CI/CD and DevOps best practices to build, test and ship your code fast. Experience with monitoring / observability tools. Advanced skills in use of AI coding agents. Nice to have: Experience shipping LLM features inside a product, not a demo. You've integrated at least one major model provider (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI or Bedrock) into a real application: structured outputs with schema validation, prompt evaluation and regression testing, and measuring and reducing cost and latency through caching, model selection and fallback strategies. Strong experience with Node.js and TypeScript. Experience in developing front-end for web apps using React. Experience with IaaC.
