TSL is an equal opportunity employer, and we are especially proud that our dynamic, international team is made up of colleagues representing 57 nationalities across the world. We want big-picture thinkers who aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves, refusing to settle for 'good enough' and pushing for great each time. We are firm believers that to build quality, you must invest in quality. We will continue to invest in our biggest asset: our amazing team. Role Description TSL is recruiting for a practical, accurate and highly motivated Setting Out Engineer to support the delivery of complex construction projects including data centre projects in the Netherlands. Working under the guidance of the Senior Project Manager, you will translate approved drawings, coordinated BIM information and survey data into precise positions, levels and alignments on site. You will work across civil, structural and architectural (CSA) works and their interfaces with mechanical and electrical systems. You will partner with the Project Director, Senior Design Manager, Senior BIM Manager, Senior Construction Manager, Project and Package Managers, quality teams and specialist subcontractors to ensure that work is built correctly first time and accurately recorded. This engineering delivery role is suitable for someone who enjoys being present in the field, takes personal ownership of accuracy and raises discrepancies before they become costly construction problems. Key Responsibilities • Establish, verify and maintain project survey control points, benchmarks, gridlines, coordinates and levels in accordance with the approved survey strategy. • Set out foundations, structural elements, slabs, walls, openings, penetrations, embedded items, equipment bases, external works and other assigned CSA and MEP interface elements. • Use robotic total stations, GPS or GNSS equipment, digital levels, laser equipment and approved survey software to achieve the required accuracy and tolerances. • Interpret construction drawings, coordinated BIM models, specifications, survey information and approved-for-construction documentation before setting out work. • Complete independent checks before work proceeds, including pre-pour, anchor-bolt, opening, penetration and equipment-base verification. • Carry out as-built surveys, compare installed work with approved information and promptly report deviations, clashes or out-of-tolerance conditions. • Coordinate closely with site teams and subcontractors so they understand the correct reference information, tolerances and setting-out requirements. • Maintain clear, traceable survey records, field data, inspection evidence, calibration records and information required for quality and handover. • Raise RFIs or technical queries through the agreed process when information is unclear, inconsistent or unsuitable; do not make unapproved design changes on site. • Plan and perform all setting-out activities safely, following approved method statements, risk assessments and project procedures. Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Experience • A degree, higher technical diploma or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Land Surveying, Construction Engineering, Building Engineering or a closely related discipline. • At least 3 years of hands-on setting-out or site-engineering experience on large or technically complex construction projects; candidates with stronger relevant experience gained through another route are also welcome. • Demonstrable competence using robotic total stations and digital levelling equipment; experience with Leica, Trimble, Topcon or equivalent systems. • The ability to read and interrogate construction drawings and coordinated BIM information using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or project-specific platforms. • Practical understanding of construction tolerances, survey control, concrete and structural works, builders' work and CSA to MEP interfaces. • Strong written and spoken English. Dutch or another European language is an advantage. • VCA-VOL certification, or willingness to obtain it before or shortly after starting, together with the right to work in the Netherlands or eligibility for appropriate sponsorship where applicable. • Data centre, mission-critical, advanced manufacturing or similarly complex project experience is highly desirable. Other Requirements • A valid driving licence recognised in the Netherlands and in Europe. • Willingness to work full-time on site in Lelystad, Netherlands. • Flexibility to travel occasionally to other European project locations if required. The Mindset We Value • Accuracy without shortcuts, including the discipline to stop and check when information does not reconcile. • Visible ownership of assigned work from preparation through verification and close out. • Respectful confidence when challenging discrepancies or unsafe and non-compliant work. • A collaborative approach with senior stakeholders, supervisors, trades and specialist subcontractors. • Curiosity, willingness to learn and motivation to improve the way survey information is used on site. • Calm, organised decision-making in a fast-moving construction environment. Health, Safety and Wellbeing At TSL, safety is everyone's responsibility. All employees are expected to actively contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment by complying with company policies, project safety requirements, and applicable legislation. Employees are encouraged to promote a positive safety culture, identify potential risks, and support continuous improvement initiatives that protect the wellbeing of colleagues, partners, and project stakeholders.
