Description

Huawei Finland Research Center is looking for experienced Senior/Staff/Principal Web Platform Engineers to join our team in Helsinki. You will work on the architecture and development of the Chromium-based web platform on OpenHarmony OS (OHOS), including integration with ArkWeb (Huawei WebView) and Huawei Browser. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Chromium internals, rendering and graphics, browser performance, and OS integration, with opportunities to work on emerging areas such as on-device AI and agent-based web interaction. Responsibilities Chromium & Rendering: Develop and optimize Chromium components including Blink, Viz, compositor, display lists, and GPU process. Improve rendering performance and integrate graphics backends such as Vulkan, GLES, and Skia/Graphite.Performance Engineering: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across rendering, GPU, IPC, memory, and browser processes on mobile, tablet, foldable, and desktop devices.Web Runtime & On-Device AI: Optimize browser runtime capabilities for local AI/ML workloads using technologies such as WebNN, WebGPU, WASM/SIMD, and GPU/NPU acceleration.Agent-Based Web Interaction: Develop browser capabilities that enable software agents to understand and interact with web content through DOM, accessibility trees, browser APIs, and IPC.OS & Hardware Integration: Integrate Chromium with OpenHarmony platform APIs and hardware capabilities including GPU, NPU, and display processing.Open Source: Collaborate with relevant open-source communities and contribute to Chromium and related projects where appropriate. Requirements 8+ years of experience in C/C++ and systems-level software development; Rust experience is a plus.5+ years of experience working with web engines such as Chromium/Blink, WebKit, Firefox/Gecko, or Servo.Strong understanding of browser architecture, including rendering pipelines, compositor, multi-process architecture, IPC, and OS integration.Hands-on experience in browser performance analysis and optimization, using tools such as Perfetto or Chrome Tracing.Experience in one or more of the following areas:Graphics: Vulkan, GLES, Skia, WebGPU/WebGLWeb runtimes: V8, WASM, JIT/runtime optimizationChromium embedding: Android WebView, CEF, Electron, or ArkWebOperating systems: Android, Linux, OpenHarmony, or other embedded/mobile platformsStrong communication skills and experience working with distributed engineering teams.Nice to Have Experience with on-device ML/AI runtimes or GPU/NPU acceleration.Experience with browser automation, agent-based web interaction, DOM or accessibility tree APIs.Contributions to Chromium or other major open-source projects; Chromium Committer/Owner status is a strong plus.
