This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Engineer - Front End Platform based in Australia. As a Lead Engineer, you’ll help define the technical direction of a shared Front End Platform used by engineering teams across a large-scale technology environment. You’ll build the tools, systems, and standards that make frontend development faster, safer, more consistent, and easier to scale. Working across engineering, product, design, and infrastructure, you’ll influence technical decisions and break down complex, multi-team challenges. You’ll balance strategic leadership with hands-on problem solving, while championing modern frontend practices and developer experience. The role also offers the opportunity to shape long-term priorities around performance, accessibility, delivery, and platform adoption. Through coaching and mentoring, you’ll help engineers grow while strengthening technical capability across the wider organisation. Accountabilities Lead the technical direction and evolution of the organisation’s front end platform and shared engineering foundations.Guide the adoption and development of a modern frontend technology stack, including React, TypeScript, and associated tooling, across multiple engineering teams.Design and maintain scalable, secure, reliable, and maintainable frontend systems, architectures, tools, and shared components.Identify technical gaps and opportunities that may be limiting engineering teams, and develop practical solutions that improve productivity and delivery.Influence CI/CD practices and delivery pipeline improvements at a platform level, promoting reliable and efficient software delivery.Shape the long-term roadmap for frontend performance, accessibility, developer experience, and platform capabilities.Drive the modernisation of legacy frontend pages and components through effective engineering practices and the application of Harness Engineering principles.Build strong relationships across engineering, product, design, and infrastructure teams to align technical priorities and encourage platform adoption.Influence technical strategy, architecture, roadmaps, and engineering standards across multiple teams and levels of the organisation.Coach and mentor engineers, supporting their technical development and progression toward more senior roles.Facilitate constructive resolution of differing technical perspectives, helping teams reach outcomes that benefit the broader organisation.Explore and apply AI tools and principles to improve engineering efficiency, problem solving, and development practices. Requirements Deep expertise in frontend engineering, with the ability to learn and apply new languages, technologies, and tools as required.Proven experience designing, building, or leading large-scale shared platforms, developer tooling, or developer experience initiatives.Strong understanding of modern frontend engineering practices, architecture, scalability, security, and maintainability.Solid knowledge of CI/CD concepts, automated testing, and Test-Driven Development (TDD), with a track record of helping teams adopt effective engineering practices.Experience working with React, TypeScript, and modern frontend tooling is highly relevant.Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction, architecture, and roadmaps across multiple teams rather than within a single engineering group.Ability to move comfortably between strategic planning and hands-on technical problem solving when required.Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, with a genuine commitment to helping others develop their technical skills and careers.Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across engineering, product, design, and infrastructure.A collaborative approach to technical disagreement, with the judgement to evaluate different perspectives and work toward the best organisational outcome.Experience using AI-powered development tools and applying AI principles to improve productivity and solve engineering challenges.Strong ownership, curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to tackle complex, open-ended problems.A mindset focused on building practical, well-adopted platform capabilities that address the real needs of engineering teams.
