Senior Java Software Engineer Complex Systems | Modern Stack | Agile & XP Culture Remote First (office visit approx. once per month – South Manchester) £60,000 – £70,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits We’re partnering with a long-established technology business building modern platforms at the heart of a complex, highly regulated domain. With continued growth across their product suite, they’re now looking for three Senior Java Software Engineers to join their engineering teams. The Opportunity This is a hands-on Senior Engineering role working on large-scale, business-critical systems, within an organisation that genuinely values engineering craft, collaboration and continuous improvement. Agile and XP practices are embedded across the engineering function, with a strong focus on TDD, pairing, continuous integration and shared ownership. You’ll join a cross-functional Scrum team alongside Product Managers, UX Designers, Test Analysts and fellow Engineers, taking ownership of features from initial idea through to production. At Senior level, you’ll also play an important role in mentoring other Developers, sharing knowledge and raising engineering standards across the team. You’ll be encouraged to challenge existing approaches, contribute ideas and have a genuine influence on both technical direction and how the team works. What They’re Looking For They’re looking for an experienced Java Engineer who combines strong technical ability with a collaborative approach to software development. You’ll ideally: Have strong commercial Java development experienceBe comfortable delivering complex features end-to-endCare about clean, maintainable and well-tested codeHave experience with, or a genuine interest in, TDD and XP practicesEnjoy pairing, mentoring and sharing knowledge with other EngineersBe comfortable contributing to technical discussions and challenging existing approachesHave experience working within collaborative Agile engineering teamsYou don't need to tick every box across the wider technology stack. Strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to pick up new technologies are more important.
