Description

Profectus is seeking an IBM Mainframe Developer to support the ongoing development and sustainment of a core business system within an agency of the Australian Government. Working as part of an established team of developers, business analysts and project staff, you will deliver mainframe code changes, resolve technical issues and help keep a long standing production system stable and secure. This is an associate level position and would suit a developer with solid COBOL and mainframe fundamentals looking to build their experience in a large, highly governed government environment. Key Responsibilities Write clear, testable and efficient mainframe code to agreed timeframes and milestonesWork across the full software development lifecycle in line with the agreed methodologyProduce technical specifications and assess operational feasibility of proposed changesIntegrate software components into working systems and maintain supporting documentationPerform unit and component testing, and support functional and non-functional testing activitiesPrepare time and effort estimates for development workTake ownership of issues, following up open questions through to resolutionSupport code deployment and release activities in line with change and cyber security standardsProvide technical support and troubleshooting, including debugging and remediation of production issuesContribute to forward planning so mainframe systems continue to meet demandLiaise with third party suppliers and service providers as requiredShare technical knowledge and provide guidance to other team membersIdentify and suggest improvements to development processes and toolingParticipate in a shared after hours on-call roster Required Experience Demonstrated experience in mainframe application development using COBOL, or a relevant tertiary qualification supported by practical development experienceWorking knowledge of mainframe technologies including CICS, JCL, VSAM and DB2Understanding of mainframe operating systems such as z/OSExperience using debugging, telemetry and monitoring tools in a mainframe settingStrong problem solving and analytical skills, with a methodical approach to fault findingClear written and verbal communication, including the ability to translate business requirements and maintain technical documentationAbility to work effectively alongside developers, analysts, project managers and business users Desirable Experience Experience with PL/IExposure to IBM MQ SeriesFamiliarity with Rocket Data z/ServicesPrevious experience supporting systems within the Australian Government Security Clearance Requirements Must be an Australian CitizenMust have an active Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance Working Arrangements OnsiteCanberra Why Profectus Profectus partners with Australian Government agencies to deliver trusted ICT capability across complex delivery programs.
