Build the product that turns AI and geospatial intelligence into something customers can use.
Lex & Winkle has partnered with a Sydney-based, AI-native geospatial intelligence company transforming satellite imagery, aerial imagery and location data into commercial intelligence across solar and energy, insurance and fire risk, and defence.
We are looking for a founding full-stack engineer, with the centre of gravity primarily on the backend, to help build the product as it moves from a functional prototype to production.
Because the team is not yet hiring a dedicated UI/UX specialist, you will build the customer-facing interface as well as the services behind it.
Backend strength is essential, as you will play a leading part in designing the product
What you will own
● Backend services, APIs and data models that power the product
● Customer-facing product interfaces, end to end, from data and API through to the user interface
● Product design and technical direction as the product scales to production
● Data modelling in PostgreSQL with Drizzle
● Integration of AI (AWS Bedrock, Anthropic and OpenAI) and geospatial data (Esri GIS)
● Deployment and operation on AWS and Vercel, with attention to reliability, performance and cost
● Supporting services, including authentication (AWS Cognito) and payments (Stripe)
● Sound DevOps and security practice across development and deployment
What we are looking for
You will have strong full-stack capability with real backend depth, and be comfortable owning a clean, usable front end.
Just as importantly, you will bring commercial awareness alongside technical depth, thinking about what business users actually need, not only what makes an elegant technical solution.
Technically, we are interested in experience across TypeScript, Next.js and React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui, PostgreSQL and Drizzle, Python, AWS (Cognito, S3 and Bedrock), Vercel, Stripe and Esri GIS.
Some practical exposure to DevOps and security (CI/CD, cloud security and secure delivery) is expected, and broader DevSecOps capability (Terraform, containers and vulnerability management) is a strong plus rather than a requirement.
Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance are required, with NV1 eligibility or higher strongly preferred.
