Principal Engineer

Principal Engineer | Distributed Systems & Data Platforms Remote | Australia We're working with an Australian technology company building a next-generation data platform and looking for a hands-on Principal Engineer to join their senior engineering team. You'll remain deeply technical, working across distributed query execution, optimisation and large-scale enterprise deployments. The Role You'll split your time between building the product and working on complex customer implementations. You'll be involved in: Distributed query execution and optimisationApache Spark and JVM engineeringQuery federation and pushdownPerformance and scalabilityConnector frameworksKubernetes and enterprise deploymentsComplex customer architecture and integration challenges What We're Looking For 10+ years software engineering experienceStrong distributed systems backgroundDeep Apache Spark experience, ideally internals and query planningStrong JVM engineering experienceScala, Java or KotlinSQL and query performance expertiseData platform or query engine experienceKubernetes, Linux and containerised environmentsComfortable working directly with customers and technical stakeholders Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Cloudera, Palantir, Starburst, Dremio, Trino or similar would be highly valuable.
