Sienna Systems is seeking a Java Developer to join a collaborative software development team supporting the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) TASPO/TASPD program.
This is a hybrid role based in Northern Virginia.
You will design, develop, test, and support Java applications and services alongside other developers, QA, product, and DevOps team members.
The team is small enough that your work is visible and your technical opinion carries weight — you will contribute to architectural decisions, not just tickets assigned to you.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain Java applications and services.Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and system integrations.Translate business and technical requirements into reliable, maintainable software.Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and architectural decisions.Write unit and integration tests and help maintain automated testing.Troubleshoot application defects, performance issues, and production problems.Work with SQL databases to develop queries and data-access components.Participate in Agile/Scrum planning, estimation, stand-ups, and retrospectives.Collaborate with QA, product, DevOps, and other developers throughout the development lifecycle.Contribute to continuous improvement of application quality, development processes, and team standards.
Required Qualifications
US citizenship, and the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS/CBP background investigation.
Work cannot begin until the investigation is adjudicated.4 or more years of professional Java development with a Bachelor's degree, or 7 years without a degreeStrong knowledge of current Java-centric tooling, including common design patterns and best practicesProficiency with SQL and relational databasesExperience with Git, pull requests, branching strategies, and code reviewsExperience with typical testing frameworks — unit testing, mock objectsExperience with build pipeline and dependency managementAbility to diagnose issues using debugging, logging, monitoring, and performance-analysis toolsAbility to work independently on assigned projects and contribute to technical decisions
