Role Objective And Key Accountabilities The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering reliable, secure, and scalable software systems that support Vox Solutions’ telecom firewall products and services. In addition to delivering high-quality software, the Senior Software Engineer provides technical leadership through architecture definition, mentoring, and process improvement, ensuring the team consistently meets engineering standards and delivery expectations. Reports to: Engineering team lead Key Interactions Backend and frontend engineers, DevOps/Infrastructure, Analytics team, QA/Testing, Product Management Core Responsibilities Software Engineering & Delivery Analyse complex requirements and define technical approaches aligned with system architectureDesign and implement backend services, APIs, and distributed systems that meet performance and reliability expectationsLead delivery of complex, multi-sprint initiatives from design through deploymentEnsure software is secure, maintainable, testable, and aligned with engineering standardsReview and validate technical designs to ensure alignment with long-term platform goalsProvide accurate effort estimates and manage technical risks during implementation Architecture & Technical Leadership Define architectural patterns, coding standards, and best practices for team-wide adoptionLead design reviews and make informed architectural decisionsEnsure systems are designed for scalability, resilience, and maintainabilityGuide engineers in applying appropriate design patterns and engineering principlesContribute to long-term platform evolution and technical strategy Quality, Reliability & Security Ensure all delivered systems meet defined reliability, performance, and security standardsDrive adoption of testing, code quality, and review practices across the teamLead root cause analysis for production incidents and implement preventative improvementsSupport definition of monitoring, observability, and alerting approachesPromote secure coding practices and risk awareness Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing Mentor software engineers, supporting skill development and technical growthProvide constructive feedback through code reviews and design discussionsSupport onboarding of new engineers and contribute to internal technical documentationEncourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the team Collaboration & Communication Work closely with Product and Project teams to translate business requirements into technical solutionsCommunicate technical trade-offs and risks clearly to stakeholdersParticipate actively in agile processes and delivery planningSupport cross-team coordination to ensure integrated system delivery Innovation & Continuous Improvement Evaluate new technologies and approaches that may improve product capabilities or team efficiencyContribute to research, prototyping, and AI-assisted development initiativesDrive improvements in engineering processes, tools, and standardsEncourage data-driven decisions for performance and scalability enhancements Telecom Domain Expertise Guide implementation of telecom protocol features and integrationsEnsure solutions align with industry standards and operator expectationsSupport investigation of telecom-related issues and architectural impactsMaintain awareness of evolving telecom technologies and security considerations Skills & Competencies Core Engineering Skills Strong understanding of software architecture and system designExpertise in backend development and API designStrong knowledge of databases, distributed systems, and performance optimisationExperience working in Linux environments and cloud-native systemsFamiliarity with CI/CD, containerisation, and deployment automation Leadership & Professional Skills Strong mentoring and coaching abilitiesClear communication and documentation skillsAbility to evaluate trade-offs and make informed technical decisionsStrong ownership mindset and accountability for delivery outcomesCommitment to engineering excellence and continuous improvement Experience & Education Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)Minimum 3 years in a senior or equivalent engineering role5+ years of professional software development experience preferredExperience working in agile software delivery environments Performance Expectations Delivers complex systems that meet quality, reliability, and performance standardsDefines architectural approaches that support long-term platform scalabilityProvides effective mentorship that improves overall team capabilityEnsures adherence to engineering standards, testing, and review practicesResolves complex technical challenges and supports incident investigationsCommunicates technical decisions clearly and justifies trade-offsContributes to improvements in processes, tooling, and delivery practicesDemonstrates ownership of technical outcomes and system reliabilitySupports successful delivery across multiple concurrent initiatives Join the team and help shape the future of the telecom industry!
