Lead Software Engineer

Help us build the engineering capability behind better customer journeys MoneyPlus is evolving its technology platform and the way Product and Engineering work together. We need strong technical leadership close to the code so that product priorities translate into reliable, maintainable software and the wider engineering team can make good decisions with greater confidence. We are recruiting a Lead Software Engineer to combine hands-on development with technical design, code review, mentoring and day-to-day engineering leadership. Working closely with the Head of Engineering and Product colleagues, you will help shape solutions before they become expensive to change, lead significant delivery and improve how the team approaches quality, reliability and technical trade-offs. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants genuine technical ownership and influence, while continuing to write production code and solve difficult engineering problems. What you’ll be doing Your work will include: Writing production code and leading the implementation of significant product and platform changes.Designing and reviewing solutions and guiding architecture, coding and database decisions.Holding a high quality bar through effective code review, security awareness and sound engineering judgement.Leading or materially contributing to the application-layer response to incidents and post-incident learning.Mentoring engineers through pairing, feedback and technical problem solving.Working with Product during discovery to challenge assumptions, shape solutions and explain trade-offs.Contributing to planning and estimation and identifying pragmatic improvements to reliability, maintainability and delivery confidence.You will work closely with colleagues across the business while maintaining clear ownership of your role in delivery and decision-making. What we’re looking for We would like to hear from you if you can demonstrate: Evidence of shipping and owning meaningful production systems.Strong software engineering fundamentals and sound architecture, coding and database judgement.Examples of technical decisions where you had to balance speed, quality, maintainability or risk.Evidence of improving other engineers through mentoring, code review or technical leadership.The ability to work from an ambiguous customer or business problem rather than only a fixed specification.Clear communication with both technical and non-technical colleagues.Sound judgement where security, data, customer or regulatory impact matters. Experience with AWS, Laravel or comparable modern cloud and application stacks would be particularly useful. Experience in regulated or otherwise high-stakes environments would also be valuable, but we are open to transferable evidence and do not expect every candidate to have worked in financial services.
