We’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale the core infrastructure behind our document intelligence and workflow platform. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing reliable, high-performance systems and taking ownership of backend architecture in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment. You’ll work closely with product, engineering, and customer-facing teams to deliver systems that are fast, resilient, and deeply aligned with customer needs. About The Role This is a high-ownership role that blends: Backend system design and distributed architectureInfrastructure, scalability, and performance optimizationProduct-focused engineering and problem solvingCross-functional collaboration across product and customer teams You’ll play a key role in shaping the systems that power Feathery’s platform — ensuring they are reliable, scalable, and built to handle complex, real-world use cases. What You’ll Do Backend Systems & Infrastructure Design, build, and scale backend services that power document processing and workflow automationDevelop asynchronous pipelines and distributed systems for handling large volumes of dataBuild and maintain infrastructure using AWS services and queueing systems (e.g., SQS)Ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and observability across systemsOptimize systems for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency Data Processing & Platform Capabilities Build systems for processing and transforming structured and unstructured dataIntegrate external services such as OCR and AI models where appropriateImprove reliability and throughput of document and data processing pipelinesContribute to APIs and internal services that power the product Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with product to define requirements and ship impactful featuresCollaborate with frontend and customer-facing teams to support new use casesHelp translate complex customer needs into scalable backend solutionsContribute to product planning and technical scoping Technical Leadership Take ownership of key backend systems and architecture decisionsMentor other engineers and contribute to engineering best practicesHelp improve code quality, testing, and deployment processesStay up to date with modern backend and infrastructure technologies About You 4–7+ years of experience building and scaling backend systemsStrong proficiency in backend frameworks such as Node.js, Django, or similarExperience designing distributed systems and asynchronous processing pipelinesSolid experience with AWS and cloud infrastructureStrong understanding of system performance, reliability, and observabilityExperience building production-grade APIs and servicesComfortable working in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environmentStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams Bonus Experience building data processing or ETL pipelinesFamiliarity with document processing, OCR, or AI/ML integrationsExperience with queueing systems (e.g., SQS) and event-driven architecturesExperience optimizing systems for high throughput and low latencyBackground in financial services, insurance, or other data-intensive industriesExperience at a high-growth B2B SaaS company What We Offer Competitive compensation and equityHealth, dental, and vision coverageUnlimited PTODowntown Toronto office locationOffice snacks and lunchesA supportive, low-ego team that values ownership and growthCompany offsite to connect and recharge Feathery is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other legally protected characteristic.
