We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Avular Team!
At Avular, we are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic senior software engineer to strengthen our current team.
Here you will work on developing and productizing software components for our modular robotics platforms.
In this role, you will make sure that our control and algorithmic engineers can use our products with ROS to create more advanced features.
So, you will become the bridge between our hardware and higher-level software engineers or control engineers.
🚀 YOUR MISSION
Avular designs and builds modular robotics platforms from the ground up.
You will build and productise the onboard software for our driving robots, as well as co-develop the architecture it sits in.
Your work is what allows our control and algorithm engineers to build higher-level autonomy on top, via ROS.
Design and build onboard applications in C++, with Python where it fitsCo-develop the software architecture — interfaces, structure, and how components fit togetherDefine and write requirements for new functionalityWork close to the hardware, including firmware where the role calls for itBuild the automated tests and documentation that make a feature genuinely doneCollaborate directly with hardware, control and algorithm engineers
⚡ WHO YOU ARE
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Typically 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial experience developing and maintaining complex production-grade software.
Expert-level knowledge of modern C++ (C++17 or newer) and strong practical experience with Python.
Strong experience with Linux, CMake, and Docker in production software environments.
Demonstrated ability to develop robust, secure, maintainable, and high-performance software.
Deep understanding of C++ memory management, concurrency, threading, ownership and lifetime, undefined behaviour, and performance characteristics.
Strong software design and architecture skills while remaining a hands-on software engineer.
Experience maturing an existing software system from functional prototypes toward a qualified, deployable product.
Experience translating system and software requirements into implementations that can be verified, validated, and traced back to their requirements.
Strong understanding of configuration management and controlled software releases.
Experience designing and implementing effective test strategies covering unit, integration, system, regression, and, where applicable, hardware-in-the-loop testing.
Strong experience with static analysis, sanitisers, code-quality tooling, profiling, benchmarking, and systematic performance optimisation.
Understanding of secure software development, including threat analysis, defensive programming, dependency management, vulnerability management, and secure communication.
Experience establishing and improving engineering practices around code review, coding standards, CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and software quality.
Able to diagnose difficult system-level problems across application software, Linux, containers, networking, and hardware.
Able to identify and systematically resolve technical risks and maturity gaps that prevent a software system from reaching qualification and operational readiness.
Able to provide technical leadership through engineering work: making technical decisions, reviewing designs and code, mentoring engineers, and driving improvements across the codebase while remaining actively involved in implementation.
Nice-to-haves:
Experience bringing software-intensive systems through Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), particularly toward TRL 8, where the actual system is completed and qualified through test and demonstration.
Experience with qualification or certification activities in aerospace, robotics, automotive, industrial, defence, or other high-reliability systems.
Experience working with formal system requirements, verification matrices, qualification test procedures, and associated engineering evidence.
Familiarity with relevant functional-safety, software-assurance, cybersecurity, or quality standards.
Experience with FMEA, FTA, hazard analysis, or other systematic risk-analysis methods and translating identified risks into software requirements and engineering measures.
Experience with reproducible builds, software bill of materials (SBOM), dependency control, artefact management, and release provenance.
Deep knowledge of the Linux OS stack, including performance analysis, networking, resource management, and system-level debugging.
Experience with ARM64 and embedded Linux, particularly NVIDIA Jetson platforms.
Experience hardening networked, autonomous, or remotely operated systems against security threats.
Experience defining measurable performance, reliability, security, and quality criteria and driving a software team toward demonstrating compliance with them.
