Description
Hi! We’re hipages, an ASX-listed tech company and Australia’s #1 digital platform connecting households with trusted home improvement businesses.
We're on a mission to transform the home improvement industry to build better lives for everyone.
With teams across Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and Vietnam, we work as one team with a shared purpose.
We’re proud to be a certified Great Place to Work and WORK180’s #1 Employer for Women.
At hipages, you’ll find real impact, career growth and a workplace where everyone belongs.
About the role:
We’re building the shared platform that makes every hipages engineer, product manager and designer and every AI agent working on their behalf, faster, safer and more effective.
We own the hipages agentic harness and software factory: the shared kernel (identity, audit logging, shared memory/context, a plugin/skill registry, org-wide safety limits and a behavioural baseline), cloud agents plus the encouraged per-team "forks" (bundled MCP servers, skills, prompts and UX surfaces).
You'll go beyond code generation to improve one or many parts of the whole software development lifecycle (SDLC), building AI workflows that are contextually aware of our codebase and conventions, integrated into how engineers already work, and continuously improving.
This is platform-engineering-shaped work: you'll build new platforms, treat fellow engineers, product managers and designers as your customers, and care equally about developer experience (DX) and agent experience (AX).
This is one of the highest leverage pieces of work in the organisation, and will shape how hipages continues to build awesome software that households, home services businesses and our internal teams love to use.

How you will add value:
Design, develop, ship, and maintain harness and platform features: plugins, skills, MCP integrations, internal AI-enabled CLIs, and scaffolding, with guidance from more experienced engineers, ensuring everything you build is robust, tested, and observable.Help improve hipages’ development experience across the SDLC, through better tooling, higher test coverage and cleaner code and data structures.Wire up agent tooling: tool-use, scoped permissions, error handling and automated verification via Playwright and Maestro and instrument behaviour in Honeycomb.Troubleshoot complex AI tooling issues across both platform and product.Work with version control and CI/CD, safely rolling changes forward and back, and contribute to production infrastructure on AWS/Kubernetes with Terraform.Validate AI outputs for correctness and appropriateness before adoption, and share useful AI use cases and learnings with your peers.
About you:
Experience with:Hands-on use of agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot or similar), with eagerness to go deep on LLMs, AI agents, MCP and prompt engineeringBuilding MCP servers, agent skills, or other agentic integrationsWriting automated evals and tests (unit, integration and/or end-to-end)Containerisation (Docker) and familiar with running workloads on KubernetesCI/CD principles and practices, and confident with git-style version control (branching, reviews, rolling changes forward and back safely)3+ years of professional software development experience, writing clean, tested, maintainable codeBackground in one or more modern languages, such as TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Python preferred (but we’re pretty flexible)Experience building and integrating APIs, and a good understanding of what makes tooling pleasant for other engineers to consumeExperience working in an AWS (or comparable cloud) environment and using its core services
