About The Role
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Frontend Developer to join our dynamic team within the Health & Professional domain.
This role is pivotal in building innovative tools and services that facilitate content discovery and access for healthcare professionals, researchers, and other stakeholders.
As a Mid to Senior level Frontend Developer, you will work within a diverse, cross-functional team that values new ideas, technological excellence, and user-centric design.
Your primary focus will be on developing scalable, maintainable, and accessible frontend solutions that enhance the user experience.
The position is based in Berlin, with routine remote collaboration with colleagues in Lisbon, London, and Dordrecht.
You will have the opportunity to influence frontend practices, contribute to a shared frontend playbook, and help shape the future of digital research tools at Springer Nature.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in frontend development, with experience in creating responsive, accessible, and user-friendly web applications.
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is essential, along with familiarity with modern frameworks and libraries such as React or Angular.
Experience working with design systems and understanding of UI/UX principles are highly desirable.
Knowledge of backend technologies like Node.js and Express is a plus but not mandatory.
Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate across diverse teams, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
A relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with a proven track record of delivering complex frontend projects in a professional environment.
Responsibilities
Within the first three months, you will familiarize yourself with the company's products, team dynamics, and frontend development practices at Springer Nature.
You will contribute to ongoing projects, participate in code reviews, and begin understanding user needs through collaboration with User Researchers.
By six months, you will have built strong relationships within your team, contributed to the frontend playbook, and started identifying areas for technical improvement.
You will also gain expertise in our design system and become comfortable with architectural directions and best practices.
By the end of the first year, you will be actively involved in implementing techniques from the frontend playbook, advising junior developers, and contributing to domain-wide discussions on frontend architecture.
Your role will include continuously improving existing systems, proposing innovative solutions, and ensuring our frontend applications meet high standards of accessibility, performance, and user experience.
