Description

The FIAU is seeking to recruit a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Network & Security Team. This Team is responsible for the provision and maintenance of a redundant, secure and reliable network for the FIAU employees and its IT Infrastructure. The Network Team strives to provide the right secure office tools to its FIAU users to ensure the best value and solutions according to the FIAUs operational requirements and industry standards. About the Role Design, operate, harden, and continuously improve enterprise infrastructure and security services across network, server, identity, application, and cloud-connected environments, with a strong focus on availability, performance, resilience, compliance, and secure service delivery. Duties and Responsibilities Administer and optimise Windows and Linux server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, storage, backup, and disaster recovery platforms.Manage core network and security technologies including switching, routing, firewalls, VPNs, endpoint protection, patch management, and access controls.Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines and release processes to support secure and reliable service delivery.Implement and manage infrastructure as code and configuration management practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar technologies; operate and enhance container platforms including Kubernetes, Docker, or equivalent orchestration environments.Support Microsoft 365, SQL Server, virtualization, cloud-connected services, and business-critical applications; implement observability solutions including logging, metrics, alerting, monitoring, and operational health checks; troubleshoot complex infrastructure, platform, and incidents.Lead infrastructure upgrades, technical projects, supplier coordination, change management, and documentation; and contribute to automation, standardisation, resilience, and secure operational practices across the environment.Lead the team by example whilst ensuring team spirit and instilling respect towards colleagues.Share all technical aspects with your team lead and head of section via WIKI documentation and verbal communication.Being proactive and showing a positive attitude towards the duties and colleagues.Perform any other related duties as delegated by the Management. Requirements An MQF level 6 qualification in Computer Science, coupled with 4 years’ experience relevant to this post, OR an MQF level 5 qualification in Computer Science, coupled with 5 years’ experience relevant to this post.Confident in managing highly complex processes, involving cross-functional teams.Confident and articulate communicator, capable of driving strong collaboration across multi-disciplinary functions.Be strong in analytical, problem solving and planning skills.Be customer-service oriented.Be able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.Be a good communicator in both the Maltese and English Language. Have strong hands-on experience with: Enterprise Windows and Linux infrastructure, Active Directory, Group Policy, networking, backup and recovery, and systems administration in secure environments.Solid understanding of firewalls, VPNs, endpoint security, patch management, incident response, and access control models.Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar platforms.Hands-on familiarity with containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent platforms.Experience with Microsoft 365, SQL Server, virtualisation platforms, cloud services such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, and support of enterprise applications.Familiarity with observability and monitoring stacks including logging, metrics, alerting, and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar solutions.Scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or comparable tools. Ability to produce and maintain technical documentation, manage suppliers, support change management, and deliver infrastructure projects.Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and team collaboration skills. Relevant academic qualifications and industry certifications such as Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, cloud, or security-related certifications will be considered an asset.
