DevOps Engineer

General Description: As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll own the process of ensuring seamless deployment of software applications within the cloud. We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to manage the transition between project planning and software deployment. In this role, your duties will include supervising junior developers, developing software and configuring systems, and performing diagnostic tests through the different stages of development as well as forecasting of project duration and costs. You will also be responsible for leading a team of engineers, providing mentorship, setting goals and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Essential Functions of the job: Contributing expertise on information system options, risk and operational impact. Managing installing and configuration of solutions. Writing of scripts for automated deployment of applications to the cloud. Maintain expertise and knowledge of current and emerging processes and techniques. Actively troubleshoot any issues that arise during testing and production, catching and solving issues before they launch. Develops interface simulators and designs automated module deployments. Resolves product implementation errors. Oversees routine maintenance procedures and diagnostic tests. Identifies and resolves performance and scalability issues. Supports the creation and maintenance of data documentations. Ships high-quality, well- tested, secure, and maintainable code. Work closely with the scrum master and product owner to address business needs while maintaining best practices and engineering standards. Work closely with designers, managers, and other software engineers during application builds, programming activities and reports. Conforms to best practices in network administration and cybersecurity. Help identify and troubleshoot operational problems, issues, obstacles, and barriers for studies based on metrics data from other project team members. Support research activities identified with the data generated and managed within data warehouse. Presents data and findings to team members. Leading and mentoring a team of junior developers and engineers. Setting performance goals, conducting regular performance reviews, and providing feedback. Fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Ensuring team adherence to best practices and engineering standards. Managing team workload and project priorities effectively. Encouraging continuous learning and professional development within the team. Qualifications: · Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent years of experience. · 5 to 10 years of advanced experience/proficiency with at least one modern language such as Python or Java. · Advanced experience/proficiency with Linux or similar UNIX distribution experience. · 5 or plus years’ experience in DevOps, SRE, Software Development experience. · Experience working with Amazon Web Services, including but not limited to cloud infrastructure development and deployment, VPCs, subnets, routers, elastic load balancing, security groups, IAM, CloudFormation, S3 buckets, RDS, CloudWatch, etc. · Experience with web and reverse proxy server deployments such as Nginx and/or Apache. · Knowledge of PKI and TLS/SSL certificate installation and maintenance. · Experience working with CI/CD tools and pipelines such as TravisCI, Circle CI, Jenkins or equivalent. · Advanced knowledge of programming fundamentals including objected-oriented programming and RESTful web architecture/services. · Experience with containerization/orchestration tools such as Docker, Docker-Compose, and Kubernetes. · Experience with version control, such as Git. · Experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL as well as NoSQL databases such as MongoDB. · Experience with configuration-management and application-deployment such as Ansible. · Experience with provisioning infrastructure components with Terraform. · Significant track record of enterprise software deployment and maintenance. · Experience clinical trial data in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology is a plus. · Proven leadership experience, including leading teams and managing multiple projects Computer/Technology Skills: · Python · SQL (PostgresSQL, MySQL) · Cloud Service Providers (AWS, Azure) · GitLab · Configuration Management (Terraform, Ansible) · Docker · Bash Travel: Minimal travel, 1-2 times per year Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes/No
