Role Description Through the success of the What a Lawyer Podcast, an opportunity has presented itself to go one step further, to provide more meaningful conversations and a place to house everything. The Application Developer is a contract role to build an MVP, will be based on-site in Christchurch and will be responsible for architecture, development, testing, and maintaining this software application. Once the current .html screen designs and build readiness brief has been understood, the day-to-day tasks include: Writing clean, efficient codeImplementing application featuresManaging integrations between internal systems and third-party platforms, Rigorous testing and deploymentEnsuring data quality, security and storage within chosen tech support systems. The Application Developer will also contribute to user interface enhancements, performance optimisation, and general best practices across web-based tools used by the firm and its users. Qualifications Strong software development and programming skills, with experience in building and maintaining production-ready applicationsPractical experience working with databases, including data modeling, queries, and performance optimisationProficiency with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and related front-end technologies to support responsive, user-friendly interfacesExperience with system and API integration, connecting applications with external services and internal toolsFamiliarity with common web development frameworks and languages (e.g. Next JS, React, Vercel, Supabase, Github, Stripe etc)Understanding of secure coding practices, data privacy considerations, and basic DevOps or deployment workflowsAbility to work collaboratively with non-technical stakeholders, translate business needs into technical requirements, and communicate clearly and efficientlyRelevant tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience For the right candidate, ongoing support work will be available after the initial MVP build for debugging, hosting and security checks, then the remainder of the build to complete the full app.
