Description

About Us Univrses is a Swedish technology company specialising in artificial intelligence and computer vision. Founded in 2015, we have spent more than a decade developing technology that turns visual data into actionable intelligence. Today, our work spans two complementary areas: automotive, and road and public infrastructure. In the latter, our 3DAI™ system uses cameras mounted on everyday vehicles to turn visual data into structured, geo-referenced data and imagery about road conditions and road assets. The system is deployed in 15+ countries and supports road authorities, contractors and infrastructure owners in building a more current and detailed view of their road networks. The role As a Senior Backend Developer, you will help design, build and scale the systems behind 3DAI™. The platform stores and processes large volumes of geospatial and time-series data generated as vehicles collect information across road networks. Your work will help ensure that these systems remain reliable, maintainable and ready to scale as 3DAI™ continues to evolve. You will work hands-on with Node.js, TypeScript and AWS, with substantial ownership from technical design through to production. Your role: Develop and scale backend services that support the storage, processing and visualisation of large volumes of geospatial and time-series data.Design efficient and maintainable solutions across APIs, database schemas, security, logging, monitoring and scaling.Own features end-to-end, translating high-level specifications into production-grade services.Design and work with distributed systems involving asynchronous processing, caching, queues and service-to-service communication.Use AI-assisted development and agentic workflows, including tools such as Cursor or Claude Code, to accelerate development, refactoring and automation while maintaining high engineering standards.Contribute to code quality through testing, technical discussions, knowledge sharing and modern software engineering practices. Who you are You are an experienced backend engineer who enjoys taking ownership of complex technical problems and turning high-level requirements into reliable, maintainable services. You are comfortable reasoning about systems end-to-end and care about the quality of what reaches production. You work well with others, share knowledge openly and value feedback. You are curious about new tools and engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, and know how to use them without compromising sound technical judgement or code quality. What you bring Required: 5+ years of backend development experience, or a proven track record of equivalent depth, building production-grade services with Node.js, TypeScript and AWS.A solid understanding of REST APIs and GraphQL.Strong hands-on experience with geospatial and time-series data, including specialised tools and databases such as PostGIS.Experience with serverless computing or Infrastructure as Code (IaC), using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Docker or the Serverless Framework.Experience designing and reasoning about distributed systems, including asynchronous processing, caching, queues and service-to-service communication.A strong approach to code quality, including unit and integration testing. Bonus points Experience with any of the following is a plus: High-performance relational, analytical or NoSQL databases.Messaging and event-driven systems such as SQS, SNS, Kafka or similar.Observability tools for logging, monitoring, tracing and alerting.CI/CD pipelines and production deployment workflows. What’s in it for You? Responsibility: Take meaningful ownership of features and technical solutions in a small team where your work has a direct influence on the product.Flexibility: Flexible working hours and a hybrid setup combining our Stockholm office with remote work.Benefits: Occupational pension and an annual wellness allowance of up to SEK 5,000. The Univrses culture An international team: Work alongside colleagues from around the world with expertise across engineering, research and business in an open and collaborative environment.Lunch & Learns: Join our weekly sessions where colleagues and external speakers share knowledge and ideas over lunch.Team time: Start the week with Monday team breakfast and wind down together at our Friday After Work. The workspace: A bright, collaborative office by the water at Hammarby Kaj in Hammarby Sjöstad, Stockholm.
