Description

General Purpose: Olympia builds and operates the software that pharmacies, prescribers, and patients depend on — a customer ordering portal, a prescriber mobile application, an in-house document-signing platform, and a self-hosted AI assistant. As a Full Stack Software Engineer, your primary role will be to own features end to end across that surface: developing the API, building the interface, integrating third-party services, and releasing through our AWS pipelines. This role works alongside the lead developer(s) and reports to the VP of Technology for feature development needs and prioritization of projects. The codebase spans a mature PHP CodeIgniter application and newer Flutter and React applications; comfort moving between them is essential. Job Tasks and Responsibilities: Develop a high-level understanding of how the ordering portal is utilized by customers, technicians, prescribers, and administrators.Build and maintain features in the core ordering portal (PHP / CodeIgniter / MySQL), the system of record for orders, customers, and fulfillment.Build prescriber-facing features in Flutter (web, iOS, and Android).Build in-house application frontends using React / TypeScript.Develop and maintain Python services (FastAPI) handling authentication, token exchange, and request orchestration between clients and backend systems.Integrate and maintain third-party APIs — payments, shipping, e-prescribing, and identity — including error handling, retries, and monitoring.Deploy and support applications on AWS using CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, ECR, S3, SSM, and Docker.Write and optimize SQL against production data volumes; diagnose and resolve slow or failing queries.Contribute to brainstorming and design sessions designed to connect development to functionality needs.Assist with new feature testing as well as regression testing for large releases and updates.Maintain technical documentation for the systems and features you own. AI Systems — Day-to-Day Support and Growth: Olympia operates its own AI infrastructure in-house: a self-hosted inference server, an authentication gateway, and a retrieval pipeline that grounds responses in Olympia documentation. Day to day, this role helps keep that stack running: Monitoring service health and responding to alerts.Performing routine restarts, deployments, and container maintenance under established procedures.Triaging errors and escalating issues that fall outside documented procedures.Updating and re-indexing the knowledge corpus used for retrieval. Over time, and based on interest and aptitude, there is room to grow into extending the system — adding tools to the assistant, tuning retrieval quality, and shaping how AI features reach prescribers. Prior AI experience is not required for this role; willingness to learn the stack is. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Three or more years of professional experience building and maintaining production web applications (five or more for senior level).Proficiency in PHP, including work within large existing codebases.Strong SQL skills, including complex multi-table joins, indexing, and query optimization.Experience with at least one modern front-end framework (React, Flutter, Vue, or equivalent).Proficiency with Git, branching workflows, code review, and CI/CD pipelines.Demonstrated debugging and troubleshooting ability across application, database, and network layers.Working knowledge of the Linux command line and containerized services (Docker / Docker Compose). Preferred Education and Experience: CodeIgniter, Laravel, or Symfony.Python, particularly FastAPI and Pydantic.Flutter / Dart, including mobile release management.React and TypeScript.AWS services: CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, ECR, S3, SSM, EC2, and IAM.Playwright or similar end-to-end testing frameworks.PostgreSQL in addition to MySQL / MariaDB.Experience in a regulated environment (healthcare, pharmacy, HIPAA / PHI).Exposure to LLM application development: retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, or self-hosted inference.Networking and server fundamentals: DNS, TLS, reverse proxies, and VPN or tunnel configuration.Experience working in Agile or Scrum development environments. Key Competencies and Qualifications: Ownership of assigned features from design through release.Sound judgment on scope and technical tradeoffs, with clear communication of the decisions made.A collaborative and team-oriented mindset to work effectively within cross-functional teams.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document systems for other engineers.Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in communication and documentation.Willingness to grow into leadership roles as technical needs and teams evolve.
