Description

Solace helps companies connect and integrate all of their assets through the power of event- driven architecture. Our technology makes it easy to unlock data silos and capture events occurring across large enterprises; stream information about those events everywhere it needs to be in real-time; and give the apps, AI agents and people who receive it the power to immediately react with decisive actions and smart decisions. Many of the world’s biggest companies trust Solace to modernize their IT infrastructure by embracing trends like AI, cloud and IoT so they can create awesome experiences for their customers, partners and employees. So, the next time you drive a car, order furniture online, fly in a plane, check your bank balance on your phone, your positive experience could be a direct result of our technology—and your hard work! About The Role As a Junior Software Engineer on the Message Spool team, you will work with senior engineers to build and improve the persistence layer of the Solace Event Broker. This system handles high volumes of messages and guarantees delivery at scale. We use AI coding tools like Claude Code every day. They help us build faster and keep our code quality high. We care more about how you think and solve problems than about years of experience. If you are quick to learn, comfortable with AI tools, and like figuring things out on your own, this role is for you. What You’ll Work On You will help build new features for the message spool subsystem. You will work with: Core Technologies: C and C++ on Linux, multithreading, and storage systems. Development Tools: Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code review, and AI coding assistants. Learning Opportunities: performance analysis, debugging complex systems, and making them more reliable and scalable. You will use AI tools like Claude Code every day, to write code, test, and debug. Key Requirements AI aptitude: you are quick to learn and comfortable using AI tools like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor to build, test, and debug. If you have not used these tools yet, you are excited to start. Independent problem solving: you can take a task, figure out an approach, and get unstuck without much hand holding. Culture fit: you care about craftsmanship, you are honest about what you know and do not know, and you work well with a team. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field. Solid foundation in C or C++ and comfortable in a Linux environment. Good written and verbal communication skills, for code reviews and working in an Agile team. Preferred Qualifications Nice to have, not required: You have used AI tools to speed up learning or shipping work, in personal projects or a job. Personal projects or open source work that show you can drive something on your own. Modern C++ (C++11 and later) and the STL. Multithreaded programming and a basic understanding of concurrency. Debugging or profiling tools, like gdb, valgrind, or perf. Familiarity with storage systems, databases, or file I/O. Understanding of distributed systems or high availability. What You’ll Learn Production C and C++ systems: work on systems that run in production and handle real customer traffic. Storage and persistence: learn how we persist messages, optimize storage, and keep the system reliable. Modern development practices: learn AI-assisted development, CI/CD automation, and testing. Distributed systems: get exposure to scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability. Mentorship: work closely with senior engineers who will help you grow.
