Job overview: We are seeking a proactive and skilled Backend Developer to build and maintain the backend services, APIs and data architecture behind E-Play24’s digital platforms, content systems, internal products and upcoming interactive products initiatives: Affiliate websites built with Next.js and deployed on Vercel, where SEO and performance are critical.Strapi-powered headless CMS platforms used by developers and content writers.PostgreSQL, Clickhouse databases.Internal products, data integrations and AI-related services.A planned fantasy football product. The role is focused on application backend development and close collaboration with frontend, content, product and technology teams. Responsibilities Design, build and maintain scalable, secure backend services and REST APIs using TypeScript and Node.js.Develop and maintain server-side functionality connected to Next.js applications.Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, relationships, queries, indexes, migrations and data integrity.Configure, extend and maintain Strapi collections, components, controllers, lifecycle hooks and permissions.Build reliable connections between Strapi, backend services and frontend applications so content teams can manage content without code changes.Create and modify endpoints, webhooks, authentication and authorization flows, validation and rate-limiting mechanisms.Integrate external provider feeds, third-party APIs and scraped content, including casino bonuses, welcome offers, affiliate links, slot RTPs and sports data.Support SEO-related backend requirements such as structured content, metadata, sitemap data and efficient SSR/ISR data delivery in collaboration with frontend developers.Deploy and maintain application services in the Microsoft Azure environment and work effectively with existing CI/CD processes.Collaborate with frontend developer and other stakeholders to define clear API contracts and practical data models.Write clean, documented and tested code and participate in code reviews.Investigate and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, data inconsistencies and production issues. Core Tasks & Daily Activities Implementing and reviewing TypeScript/Node.js backend code.Maintaining Next.js server-side integrations and API routes.Creating and evolving Strapi content structures for new pages, websites and campaigns.Modeling PostgreSQL data and optimizing queries, indexes and connection handling.Building feed ingestion, synchronization jobs, webhooks and scheduled background processes.Managing image upload, transformation, storage and CDN delivery workflows.Supporting frontend developers and content writers with documentation and data-model guidance.Working with Git, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.Reviewing logs, diagnosing errors and improving observability and reliability.Participating in sprint planning, technical discussions and architecture reviews.Supporting the design and implementation of fantasy sports contest and lobby functionality. Requirements Must-have technical skills and experience At least 3 years of professional experience in backend web application development.Demonstrable experience with production APIs, relational databases and CMS-backed web platforms.Portfolio, GitHub profile or equivalent evidence of relevant production work is preferred.Commercial experience with TypeScript, Node.js and Python backend development.Strong understanding of Next.js server-side capabilities, including API routes, server components/actions and SSR/ISR data flows.Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including relational modeling, migrations, indexing, query optimization and data integrity.Hands-on experience with Strapi or a comparable headless CMS.Experience designing and maintaining REST APIs, webhooks, authentication/authorization and rate limiting.Practical experience working with and deploying applications in Microsoft Azure.Experience with Git, pull-request workflows and CI/CD pipelines.Understanding of cloud storage and CDN-based media delivery.Ability to write unit and integration tests and maintain clear technical documentation.Professional proficiency in English; Italian is considered an asset. Desirable skills Experience with real-time technologies such as WebSockets or Server-Sent Events.Docker and container-based development.Azure Functions, Azure OpenAI or data pipelines.Familiarity with Linux, MongoDB or additional backend technologies.Experience with sports data, fantasy sports or lobby/table-based products. Soft skills and mindset Ownership and autonomy: able to take a task from definition to completion.Proactive communication of blockers, risks and uncertainties.Strong quality standards, including testing, code review and maintainable design.Pragmatic problem-solving and ability to avoid unnecessary complexity.Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.Collaborative attitude when working with frontend, content, product and operations teams. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
