Role Description This is a remote volunteer role for a JS, Python Software Engineer.
The engineer will collaborate on the design and implementation of platform features, focusing on building and maintaining backend services and APIs in Python and JavaScript.
Day-to-day tasks may include writing clean, well-documented code, reviewing contributions from other volunteers, troubleshooting issues, and improving performance and reliability of the system.
The role also involves participating in technical discussions, refining requirements, and helping integrate scheduling, reporting, and data management functionality.
The engineer will work closely with product and design contributors to ensure that new features are robust, secure, and aligned with the needs of homeschooling families.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science concepts and Software Development practicesHands-on experience with Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), preferably in JavaScript and PythonSkills in Back-End Web Development, including API design, data modeling, and integration with databases or other servicesFamiliarity with version control (e.g., Git/Jira) and collaborative development workflowsAbility to write clear, maintainable, and tested code in a remote, distributed environmentInterest in education, homeschooling, or building tools that support families is a plusPrior experience with cloud platforms, security best practices, or scalable architectures is beneficial
