Role Description The QA Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, performance, and security of software applications throughout the development lifecycle. The role will work closely with Product Managers, Developers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, identify potential risks, develop comprehensive testing strategies, and ensure that software products meet defined functional and quality standards before release. The role will also contribute to building and continuously improving QA processes, automation frameworks, testing methodologies, tools, and best practices across the organization. Roles and Responsibilities A. Quality Assurance & Testing Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Developers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to understand business and technical requirements.Review requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical specifications to identify gaps, ambiguities, dependencies, and potential risks.Develop comprehensive test plans, test strategies, test scenarios, and test cases based on product requirements.Design and execute manual and automated test cases across different software products and platforms.Perform functional, integration, system, regression, smoke, sanity, usability, compatibility, and exploratory testing.Conduct API testing to validate application functionality, data integrity, and system integrations.Perform database testing and validate data consistency across systems.Identify, document, prioritize, and track software defects using appropriate defect-tracking tools.Work closely with developers to reproduce, troubleshoot, and resolve defects.Conduct regression testing following bug fixes, enhancements, and new releases.Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and support business users during testing activities.Validate software releases against defined quality standards and acceptance criteria.Ensure that critical defects and quality risks are identified and communicated before production deployment. B. Test Automation Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts for web, mobile, API, and other applicable applications.Identify suitable test cases for automation based on business value, frequency, complexity, and risk.Maintain and improve automated testing frameworks and test suites.Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing.Analyze automated test results and investigate failures.Continuously evaluate and recommend appropriate QA automation tools and technologies.Reduce repetitive manual testing through effective automation and process improvements. C. Performance & Security Testing Support performance and load testing to assess application stability, scalability, and responsiveness.Identify performance bottlenecks and collaborate with development teams to address issues.Conduct basic security testing and identify common application security vulnerabilities.Work with relevant technical teams to ensure applications follow established security and data-protection standards.Participate in vulnerability, penetration, and security testing activities where applicable. D. QA Process & Strategy Develop, implement, document, and maintain comprehensive QA processes and testing strategies.Establish standardized testing methodologies, templates, checklists, and documentation.Define appropriate quality gates and release criteria for software products.Continuously improve QA processes, tools, workflows, and best practices.Identify opportunities to improve testing efficiency, coverage, accuracy, and turnaround time.Promote quality throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), rather than limiting QA activities to the final testing stage.Contribute to Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.Support continuous improvement initiatives across Product and Technology teams. E. Team Leadership & Mentoring Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to QA engineers and other testing team members.Allocate testing responsibilities based on project priorities, skills, and timelines.Review test plans, test cases, automation scripts, and defect reports prepared by team members.Promote adherence to QA standards, testing methodologies, and best practices.Support team members in troubleshooting complex testing issues.Identify skill gaps within the QA team and recommend appropriate training and development initiatives.Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, continuous learning, and quality excellence. F. QA Metrics & Reporting Define, monitor, and report key QA and software quality metrics.Track metrics such as test coverage, defect density, defect leakage, defect severity, test execution status, automation coverage, pass/fail rates, and release quality.Prepare regular QA status reports for relevant stakeholders.Identify trends, recurring issues, and areas for improvement based on QA data.Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality.Maintain appropriate QA documentation, dashboards, and testing reports. G. Release & Production Support Participate in release planning and provide QA sign-off based on defined quality criteria.Conduct pre-release validation and post-release verification.Support production deployments by performing smoke and sanity testing where required.Monitor production issues and work with relevant teams to identify root causes.Participate in root cause analysis for critical production defects and recommend preventive measures.Maintain appropriate documentation of production issues, lessons learned, and corrective actions. H. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management Work effectively with Product, Engineering, Design, Business, and other cross-functional teams.Communicate testing progress, risks, issues, and quality concerns clearly to stakeholders.Provide constructive feedback on product functionality, usability, and potential risks.Participate in product discussions and provide QA input during early stages of product development.Ensure alignment between business requirements, technical implementation, and quality expectations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.Relevant professional certifications in Software Testing/QA such as ISTQB will be an advantage.Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC).Strong understanding of QA methodologies, testing techniques, and defect management processes.Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.3–6 years of relevant experience in Software Quality Assurance / Software Testing.Experience in both manual and automated testing.Experience in developing and maintaining automated test frameworks.Experience with API testing and database testing.Experience working with defect tracking and test management tools.Experience with CI/CD and version-control workflows will be an advantage.Experience in leading or mentoring QA team members will be preferred.
