The position offers technical leadership, architectural ownership, developer mentoring, four weeks of vacation from the first year, and an annual equity award.

Description

Role Overview You would write the software that makes Mazlite's sensors work: the cloud services behind them, the interfaces people use to read them, the computer vision and machine learning applied to the data they produce, and the integration with the PLCs and industrial controllers they sit beside. It is the uncommon software job where the thing you ship ends up running on a factory floor. This is a hybrid technical leadership role. You would own projects end to end, shape the architecture, and mentor the developers around you, reporting directly to Mazlite's co-founder and CTO. The salary band is published below, along with four weeks of vacation from your first year and a yearly equity award in the company share ownership plan. Key Responsibilities Lead end-to-end development of software projects, from design to deploymentArchitect and build scalable systems across cloud, front-end, and backend environmentsContribute to industrial automation solutions, including PLC-integrated systemsOptimize components related to computer vision, machine learning, data processing, data transfer, and other critical pipelinesDevelop and drive comprehensive testing and quality control strategies and systemsMentor and support junior developers through code reviews, guidance, and best practicesManage project timelines, priorities, and technical directionCollaborate cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and stakeholdersEnsure security, reliability, and performance across all systemsHelp define and maintain development standards and system architecture Requirements 5+ years of professional software development experienceStrong understanding of software architecture and system designExperience across several of these:Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar)Front-end frameworks (Angular, React, or similar)Backend languages (C++, Python, Rust, or similar)Deployment pipelines and DevOps practicesContainerization (Docker, or similar)Linux-based operating systemsExperience with performance tuning, memory management, or optimizing high-throughput systemsSolid grasp of security principles and best practicesExperience mentoring or leading other developersStrong problem-solving and communication skillsCanadian citizenship or permanent residency (see "Why this role requires Canadian citizenship or permanent residency" below) If you meet most of this but not all of it, apply anyway. We would rather read your application and decide than have you decide for us. Nice to Have Familiarity with industrial automation, PLC systems, and robot programmingFamiliarity with industrial communication protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, MODBUS, etc.)Experience integrating software with hardware or industrial systems, such as industrial cameras or custom circuitryExperience developing and deploying machine learning modelsKnowledge of networking, embedded systems, or IoTBackground in high-reliability or real-time systemsAn existing Government of Canada security clearance, or having held one Work Environment Hybrid role based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)Mix of remote work and on-site collaboration depending on project needs Why Join Mazlite?Your code runs on hardware in working plants, not only in a browserThe team is small enough that the architecture you choose is the architecture that shipsThe work spans cleared defence programs and commercial manufacturing, which is a combination very few software roles offerYou report to the co-founder and CTO, so a technical decision does not travel far to get made Why this role requires Canadian citizenship or permanent residency This is a bona fide occupational requirement for this role, not a preference. Two things drive it: part of the work is carried out under an NRC IRAP grant, whose terms set this condition, and part of it is performed under security clearance for United States Department of War and Canadian military programs, which cannot be granted to someone who is not eligible to hold that clearance. We ask about status for that reason and no other. The answer is read by a person, is never used to score or rank an application, and goes no further than the shortlist presented to Mazlite. If you are unsure whether you qualify, apply and say so — the question is there to start a conversation, not to end one. Compensation and Benefits CAD 130,000 to 140,000 a yearA yearly equity award in the company employee share ownership plan (ESOP)Four weeks of vacation, starting in your first yearUnlimited sick days. The policy is that you do not come to work when you are sickTravel opportunities, for those who want them How we hire Reyem Tech runs this search for Mazlite.
