Learn more at TradeBeyond.com About the Role We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Software Engineer (Java Backend) to join our engineering team. This role requires deep expertise in Java (5+ years) and strong experience in designing and building scalable backend systems. As a technical leader, you will drive system architecture, mentor engineers, lead technical decisions, and collaborate closely with product, architecture, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performance backend services. Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and maintenance of large-scale backend systems and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring BootAct as a technical authority on Java, ensuring best practices in performance, scalability, and maintainabilityDrive system architecture and technical design discussions, including API design, data modeling, and service decompositionReview code and provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineersEstablish and enforce coding standards, design principles, and best practicesCollaborate with product managers, frontend teams, and QA to define technical solutions and deliver high-quality featuresIdentify and resolve complex technical issues, performance bottlenecks, and system reliability concernsLead initiatives to improve system performance, scalability, security, and observabilityContribute to and review technical documentation and architectural decision recordsStay current with backend technologies and proactively introduce improvements where appropriate Requirements 5+ years of hands-on Java development experience, with strong proficiency in core Java and JVM-based systemsExtensive experience with Spring / Spring Boot in production environmentsStrong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and backend servicesSolid understanding of SQL and relational databases (PostgreSQL), including schema design and query optimizationPractical experience with ElasticSearch, including search, analytics, or performance tuningProven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and optimize complex backend systemsExperience in leading technical discussions and guiding engineering teamsExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across teamsStrong ownership mindset and ability to drive projects from design to productionExperience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) in production systemsFamiliarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines, NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis, etc.) TradeBeyond Offers You will work in a flat and open team environment where your experience and expertise are valued.
