Description
We are looking for a Build and Deployment Engineer (Linux) to deliver software builds, packaging and deployments for EUMETSAT's mission-critical Linux ground-segment systems and to support new projects onto standardised, automated delivery workflows.
Background
The Computer and Systems Management (CSM) competence area, part of the Infrastructures for IT and Data Division (I2D) at EUMETSAT, provides all levels of system and software builds and deployments for the operational ground-segment infrastructure, alongside computing platforms, data storage and distribution, network services and infrastructure security for multi-mission environments.
You will join the Build and Deployment Service Team within CSM, which covers routine builds, packaging and deployments, engineering and coordination for incoming projects, and the maintenance of the platform tooling landscape.
Growing volumes of vendor deliveries have made standardised, automated and best-practice workflows central to the team's role.
You shall support
Perform ticket-based software builds, packaging, deployments and activations on established Linux systems, both critical and uncritical, triggered by the daily Configuration Review Board and service deskMaintain and evolve automated, unattended installation and provisioning solutions (AutoYaST, Kickstart, Orcharhino, PXE/TFTP) and Ansible-based configuration managementCreate and maintain build, packaging and deployment implementations for software and data releases and patches, and maintain a common baseline for automation tools and scriptsSupport developers and delivery partners on build and versioning strategies, and advise incoming projects on how to deliver software and systems to the teamAssess documentation related to formal deliveries and acceptance tests, and produce the documentation needed to transition projects into routine build and deploymentResolve anomaly reports, handle file copy and storage requests across security domains, and provide user support on the service tooling
Skills and experiences
Sound understanding of software configuration management principles and change management processesEssential knowledge and experience in using Unix/Linux command line toolsAutomated OS installation solutions: Linux AutoYaST and Kickstart, Orcharhino (Foreman/Satellite), and unattended, centralised software installation mechanisms (PXE/TFTP)Software provisioning, configuration management and deployment tooling: AnsibleSoftware build environments and tools such as Ant, Maven, autoconf/automake and makeVersion control systems such as SVN, git and GitLabSoftware packaging formats such as RPM, PKG, LPP, tgz, ZIP and DEBScripting languages, e.g.

Working Location
This is a full-time position, in Darmstadt, Germany starting from November 2026.
Around 25% of the work is provided on-site at EUMETSAT's premises in Darmstadt.
Occasional weekend, public-holiday or early-morning/late-night work may be required, always agreed in advance.
