Remote Type: Hybrid (23 days per week on-site) Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on experience Role OverviewAn exciting opportunity for a driven Network DevOps Engineer to join a multi-national Digital Excellence function. Ideal candidates should be passionate about modernising network management, driving automation initiatives, and upskilling others. You will contribute to building an automated network infrastructure that underpins critical systems and supports rapidly evolving organisational needs. Key ResponsibilitiesSoftware Development: Design, develop, and maintain production-grade software and custom tools (primarily using Python) to manage network infrastructure at scale. Engineering Standards: Champion software engineering best practices within the team, including code reviews, unit testing, and writing clean, maintainable code. Automation & Testing: Establish automated software testing strategies, build and manage CI/CD pipelines within GitLab, and develop Ansible playbooks and roles for network configuration. Infrastructure Management: Manage and extend network Sources of Truth by developing custom data models, plugins, and state-driven automation jobs. Team Collaboration: Support and upskill existing team members to help develop their software engineering capabilities. Candidate RequirementsEssential SkillsAdvanced proficiency in Python, with a strong grasp of software engineering concepts (OOP, design patterns, testable code). Solid experience with Python testing methodologies and designing testing strategies from the ground up for applications and APIs. Strong experience designing, consuming, and integrating REST and GraphQL APIs using frameworks such as Django REST Framework, FastAPI, and Pydantic. Proficiency with standard data structures, serialisation, and templating languages (JSON, YAML, Jinja2). In-depth understanding of DevOps principles and Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban). Experience using version control systems (Git and GitLab) and practical experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Hands-on experience using Ansible to automate and manage configurations. Familiarity with core networking principles (TCP/UDP, IP, DNS, Routing, Switching, Subnetting, VLANs). Desirable SkillsFamiliarity with network-specific testing frameworks like PyATS. Experience with Cisco technologies (Catalyst Center and/or ACI). Experience using Nautobot (or similar Django-based applications) as a Network Source of Truth. Experience with data mocking and/or factory libraries. Proficiency in using Linux OS distributions, preferably RHEL. Understanding of virtualisation and containerisation technologies, specifically Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
