Summary ✨ AI‑Generated

Work on the core infrastructure of a high-frequency trading environment where microsecond-level efficiency matters. You will build and optimize low-latency systems, focusing on inter-process communication, memory, threads, networking, Linux internals, and hardware integration rather than user interfaces. The role suits engineers passionate about systems-level performance and highly optimized software.

Highlights

Deep systems engineering role focused on microsecond-level performance in high-frequency trading infrastructure. Offers exposure to low-latency architecture, operating-system internals, networking, memory optimization, and close collaboration with quantitative and hardware specialists.

Description

As a Software Engineer at Barak Market Making, you will play a crucial role in building and scaling the core engine of our algorithmic trading platform. You won't just be building features or user interfaces—you will dive deep into system architectures, memory management, and Linux OS internals to squeeze microsecond-level efficiencies out of our automated trading infrastructure. You will work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment alongside quantitative traders, hardware engineers, and systems administrators to design and maintain high-frequency trading (HFT) systems across global markets. Key Responsibilities • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, low-latency core trading components, focusing on IPC, memory optimization, thread management, and network I/O rather than application-level GUIs. • Collaborate with Linux and network engineers to optimize kernel socket buffers, hardware integration, and system-level configurations for maximum throughput and reliability. • Partner directly with quant traders and researchers to translate trading strategies into ultra-fast, deterministic production code. • Take end-to-end responsibility for complex infrastructure projects—from architectural design and bench-marking to CI/CD automation and production monitoring. • Articulate complex technical trade-offs, system behavior, and low-latency bottlenecks clearly across both technical and non-technical teams. The Right Candidate • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience in C++ or Java, demonstrating a sustained track record of ownership and impact on mission-critical systems. • Deep knowledge of low-level software engineering—including memory layout, concurrency models, Linux OS internals, kernel profiling, and low-latency optimizations. • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment, sharing knowledge, engaging in rigorous code reviews, and working toward shared platform goals. • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex low-level concepts simply. • Strong autodidactic drive and problem-solving initiative, comfortable taking ownership outside the rigid silos of corporate environments. Nice to have: • (Basic) understanding of financial markets infrastructure, order books, and exchange protocols. What We Offer: • HSM visa support and 30% ruling support (if applicable) • Breakfast, fresh coffee, and daily meal allowance in our office in Amsterdam Zuid • Access to gym facilities, travel reimbursement, or Lease-a-Bike program International environment and regular team events
