Working on the Slate Implementations team, this person turns project requirements into clean, working code, building responsive portals and front-end tools that help partner schools run their enrollment work. This role works closely with Slate Strategists and the Client Delivery team, applying new tools and technologies along the way to keep solutions fast, secure, and easy to use. What You’ll Own Slate DevelopmentScope out assigned web development work in Slate and flag risks early.Work with Slate Strategists and the Client Delivery team to align on design, content, UX, timing, and technical requirements.Deliver development work that meets the project scope and what the client expects.Help write specs that lay out what needs to get built.Development PracticesFollow the best practices senior team members and leadership have set for how projects get built.Use AI tools to speed up development, QA, and documentation, and check the output against accessibility standards, Slate’s architecture, and Carnegie’s portal standards.Write code that’s scalable, efficient, and handles the data types the project needs.Quality AssuranceTest throughout the project for visuals, accessibility, browser compatibility, UX, and whether the build matches the spec.Review code and troubleshoot issues for teammates when needed.Slate Portal ProjectsBuild and maintain Slate Portals and front-end tools for partner institutions, including Portal Queries, Views, and Methods.Deliver custom Slate-hosted web projects for your assigned client portfolio.Work with Slate Strategists and the wider client team (Project Leads, Project Managers, Sales, and Creative) to keep projects running smoothly and accurately.Handle support requests, fixing issues directly or looping in the right teammate. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experienceAt least two years of professional experience building in Slate PortalsExperience with Technolutions Slate CRMA portfolio of website development and/or Slate custom portal work (required for consideration)Skill with responsive web design and HTML5, CSS3, SASS/SCSS, JavaScript, and jQueryKnowledge of web development best practices for performance, security, and accessibility (WCAG 2.2)Familiarity with database languages like SQLGrowing skill at building flexible, solid design systemsComfort with QA and code validation toolsStrong written and verbal communicationGood organizational skills, including attention to detail, prioritizing, and decision-makingAbility to work well with teammates and represent Carnegie well with clientsStrong communication and time management for a remote environment, with the ability to pick up new technology platformsKnowledge of Slate Portals, including methods, views, queries, and the events moduleBasic understanding of admissions processes and strategyAble to work at a computer for extended periods Why This Role This role gives you room to build things people use every day: portals that make enrollment work easier for the schools and students who depend on them.
