About The Role As a Staff Software Engineer at Capital One Canada, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality, scalable software solutions. You will act as a technical leader within our dynamic team, owning the architecture and development of cross-functional, multi-platform applications. This role requires advanced hands-on development skills, a deep understanding of software design principles, and the ability to guide and mentor junior team members. You will collaborate closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and other engineering teams to deliver innovative features and improvements that enhance our customer experience. Your expertise will be instrumental in establishing engineering best practices, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring our technology stack remains robust and aligned with industry standards. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 6 years of hands-on software development experience, preferably utilizing languages such as Java, Python, or Go. You should have extensive experience in application and data architecture, design, and development, with a proven track record of delivering complex software solutions. Cloud experience, particularly with AWS, is highly preferred, although familiarity with other cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud is also valuable. Candidates should have experience mentoring junior and intermediate developers, providing guidance on best practices and technical standards. A strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies, especially agile, is essential. Educational qualifications include a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields. Responsibilities Collaborate as part of a high-performing team throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle, from planning to deployment.Act as a technical lead, owning the design and development of fault-tolerant, multi-platform applications that meet business requirements.Continuously seek opportunities to improve the developer experience by identifying gaps in existing frameworks, tools, and processes, and contribute to their enhancement.Establish and promote engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables.Provide technical expertise and problem-solving support, defining standards and ensuring adherence across projects.Take ownership of architecture, applying a strong understanding of evolving technologies, and contribute to high-level design documents.Mentor junior and intermediate associates, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
