I’m working on a great opportunity for a Mid-Level Java Backend Engineer to join a small, fast-moving engineering team building critical sports data services that support high-frequency decision-making. This is a hands-on Java role where you’ll be working with live and historical sports data, third-party APIs, data modelling and downstream integrations — solving the messy, real-world problems that come with external data. What you’ll bring: Computer Science degree3+ commercial Java experienceSpring Boot or similar modern backend experienceStrong SQL / relational database skillsExperience working with third-party APIs or external data feedsSolid understanding of data modelling and data qualityStrong debugging and problem-solving skillsA proactive, autonomous approach to deliveryGood testing and code-review practicesComfortable working in a small, fast-moving engineering teamExperience using modern AI coding tools The tech Java 21 | Spring Boot | PostgreSQL | JPA | Flyway | AWS SQS | WebFlux/Reactor | Bazel | Containers You don't need to know everything — what matters is strong Java fundamentals, curiosity and the ability to get stuck into complex problems.
