Next.js Software Engineer

NextJS Engineer (UK Remote)Please note before applying: This is a remote role, however applicants must already be based in the UK and eligible for PAYE employment. We are unable to offer Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this role. Who are Tilth?Tilth is building the software layer for modern agriculture. We combine farm management data, Earth observation and AI to give farmers a clearer picture of what is happening on their land, and what they should do about it. We're a small, ambitious startup, so you'll have real ownership over what we build, how we build it and why we're building it. We're looking for a proficient NextJS Engineer with at least 3+ years of experience to join the team. This is a hands-on role for a developer who wants to work across frontend, backend and AI, and who wants genuine ownership of what they create. What you'll doYou'll work across the Tilth application and the systems behind it, including: Building features in our Next.js / React applicationDesigning APIs and backend servicesIntegrating third-party APIs and data sourcesBuilding interfaces for complex agricultural and geospatial datasetsBuilding asynchronous jobs and data-processing pipelinesIntegrating LLMs and other AI capabilitiesDebugging, testing and improving production softwareBecause we're a small team, you'll help shape what we build as well as how it works. What we're looking forNext.js is essential. We need someone who understands modern Next.js and can build applications that are not just functional but fast. You need to be comfortable with server/client components, data fetching and caching, and diagnosing performance bottlenecks in a data-heavy application. You should ideally have: Strong TypeScript and Node.js experience.Extensive experience working with NextJS and developing performant APIs.Good practices around testing, security, error handling and maintainability.Experience with modern authentication systems, such as Better Auth, NextAuth, or providers such as Cognito.Be comfortable with relational databases and PostgreSQL, and knowledge of modern ORMs or query builders (e.g. Drizzle), or even just raw SQL.The confidence to work independently in an early-stage environment We're a small, ambitious startup that values curiosity and independence, and we're looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and enjoys turning loosely defined ideas into working software rather than waiting for a perfectly defined brief. Nice to haveYou don't need professional AI experience, agricultural or Earth observation experience, but we'd be especially interested if you've worked with: LLM APIs and AI application architecturesRAG, embeddings and vector databasesTool/function calling and agentsStructured outputs and evaluationSatellite imagery or remote sensingGIS or geospatial dataTime-series data or computer visionA note on experienceWe won't hire anyone who can't show us previous work they've actually built, whether that's professional projects, open-source contributions or a personal project.
