🚀 Software Engineering Manager | Hamilton, ON | On-Site Confidential Client | Hyper-Growth Technology Company We’re partnering with a hyper-growth technology company looking for a Software Engineering Manager who is first and foremost a strong hands-on technical leader. This is not a traditional people-management role. We’re looking for someone who can architect complex systems, make high-impact technical decisions, stay close to the code, and lead the evolution of the engineering organization as the company scales. You’ll be reporting into the VP- Tech and have the opportunity to shape the technology, engineering structure, development practices, and ultimately how the organization builds software in an increasingly AI-native environment. 🔥 The Opportunity You will play a key role in taking the engineering organization to its next stage of growth. You’ll be expected to: - Lead the architecture and technical direction of complex, high-impact projects - Stay hands-on with system design, technical problem-solving, code reviews, and critical development - Establish and evolve engineering architecture, standards, processes, and development practices - Make decisions around scalability, reliability, security, performance, and technical debt - Work closely with Product and Leadership to translate ambitious business goals into strong technical execution - Help evolve the structure and operating model of the engineering organization as the company scales - Build and mentor a strong engineering team while maintaining a high technical bar - Establish engineering metrics and practices that improve quality, velocity, and predictability - Hire and develop engineers who can operate at a high level - Drive the transition toward AI-native software development - Evaluate and implement AI-assisted engineering workflows and tools to fundamentally improve how the team builds software 🤖 Building an AI-Native Engineering Organization AI isn't an add-on here — it’s becoming a fundamental part of how engineering operates. You’ll help define what an AI-native engineering organization looks like in practice, leveraging tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, and emerging AI technologies. We’re looking for someone who is genuinely curious about how AI can change development velocity, architecture, testing, code quality, and the overall engineering lifecycle. 🧠 What We're Looking For - 7+ years of software engineering experience - 3+ years leading engineering teams, ideally in a high-growth environment - Deep hands-on engineering experience — you still build, design, review, and solve - Strong expertise in modern full-stack development - Experience with Node.js, TypeScript, Python, React/Next.js - Strong experience with PostgreSQL and/or MongoDB - Deep understanding of software architecture, APIs, distributed/scalable systems, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and security - Experience owning architecture and technical strategy for complex systems - Experience building and evolving engineering teams and organizational structures - Strong technical judgment with the ability to balance speed, quality, scalability, and business priorities - Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers - Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills - Strong interest in AI-assisted and AI-native software development 🚀 Why This Role?
