This role sits within our Product & Technology function in our Amsterdam office, home to over 300 talented professionals, where cross-functional teams design, develop and scale the products that millions of users rely on every day across our Benelux marketplaces, Marktplaats and 2dehands/2ememain. This role is on the internal IT side of that function, building the platforms and automation the whole company runs on. You'll own the IT infrastructure, SaaS ecosystem, identity and access management, and automation for ~350 colleagues, reducing manual work, optimising processes, and building a setup that scales without adding complexity. This is a hands-on role: we want IT here to work like engineering, not a support desk. AI is changing what a small IT team can do and we want to be at the front of that, not catching up. Today that means Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot, and you'll constantly be asking where AI can take work off our plate next. You'll join our newly formed BNL IT team of four, reporting to the Head of IT. You'll work most closely with our Service Delivery Lead, and you'll be the first dedicated platform and automation engineer here, so you help decide how this works rather than inheriting it. What You Will Do Automation and engineering (core focus) Identify manual processes and eliminate themBuild automated workflows and integrations across our systemsWrite scripts and tooling to replace manual stepsDesign, run and improve the infrastructure our teams use to ship the things they build with AI Cloud, infrastructure and SaaS Manage our cloud infrastructure and apply infrastructure-as-codeOwn the SaaS ecosystem end to end: configuration, lifecycle and integrationsOwn our AI tooling, steer where it goes next, and watch what it costsKeep backup, restore and monitoring in place and tested Identity and access Own our identity platform, SSO, MFA and access provisioningDesign and maintain joiner/mover/leaver workflows Endpoints, network and support Manage endpoints, device management and the office networkAct as escalation point for complex technical issues, working closely with Service DeliveryManage vendor escalations and SLA oversight, and support onboarding of new toolsWho You Are Who You Are 8+ years in a broad IT role (IT Generalist, Systems Engineer, or similar), running and managing complex technical environmentsHands-on experience owning an identity platform: SSO, MFA, provisioning and joiner/mover/leaver automationStrong experience with AWS (or similar), Terraform or IaC tooling, and CI/CD (e.g. GitHub Actions)Able to script and build tooling, preferably in PythonStrong understanding of SaaS environments and networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, WiFi)Strong English communication skillsAutomation mindset: you actively eliminate manual work and have built integrations using APIs or workflow tools (e.g. n8n, Workato, Zapier)Comfortable working with non-technical colleagues and translating between business needs and technical solutionsExcited about what AI can do for IT and have built things that show it Bonus Points Dutch language is a plusYou tinker outside work: a homelab, a side project, or a tool you couldn't leave aloneHave run AI tools at company level, not just used themHave owned an entire IT estate before, in a scale-up or a small teamService desk or ITSM experience Our Tech Stack Cloud: AWS, GCPIdentity and access: OktaAutomation and integration: Python, n8n, Workato, REST APIsInfrastructure as code and CI/CD: Terraform, GitHub, GitHub ActionsWorkplace and endpoints: Google Workspace, Slack, Workspace One Observability: Datadog, Grafana, PrometheusAI: Claude, ChatGPT, GitHub CopilotContainers: Docker, KubernetesNetwork: Cisco, UbiquitiITSM: JSM, JiraDocumentation: Confluence This role is based out of our Amsterdam office.
