About the Role The Senior Backend Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications and services. The role focuses on server-side development using PHP/Laravel and/or Node.js/NestJS, developing RESTful APIs, integrating databases and third-party services, implementing caching and asynchronous processing, and ensuring high-quality, maintainable code. You'll work closely with Frontend Developers, Solution Architects, DevOps, QA, Product, and Project Management teams to deliver reliable, scalable software in an Agile/Scrum environment. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Laravel/PHP and/or Node.js/NestJS, following OOP, SOLID, and best practices.Build and maintain RESTful APIs, backend integrations, and business logic based on functional requirements.Design, implement, and optimize database structures and queries across MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and/or MongoDB using ORMs like Eloquent, TypeORM, or Prisma.Implement caching with Redis and manage background jobs/queues (Laravel Queues, BullMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka).Develop and maintain automated unit/integration tests (PHPUnit, Pest, or Jest) and participate in code reviews.Integrate internal systems and third-party APIs, implementing proper authentication and authorization.Work with Docker, support CI/CD pipelines, and follow Git-based branching workflowsSupport and enhance Drupal-based applications where required (modules, theming, site-building).Apply secure coding practices and address OWASP-level security risks.Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and provide technical guidance to junior/mid-level developers. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field.5+ years of professional backend/server-side development experience.Strong hands-on experience with PHP/Laravel and/or Node.js/NestJS (experience across both is highly desirable).Strong understanding of OOP and SOLID principles.Proven experience designing RESTful APIs and working with relational/NoSQL databases.Hands-on experience with ORM technologies (Eloquent, TypeORM, or Prisma).Experience with Redis and queue/background processing.Experience writing automated tests (PHPUnit, Pest, Jest, or equivalent).Strong Git experience, practical Docker knowledge, and CI/CD exposure.Agile/Scrum team experience and solid understanding of application security basics. Nice to Have: Strong Drupal experience (module development, theming, site-building).Exposure to microservices architecture and Kubernetes/container orchestration.
