Summary
✨ AI‑Generated
Join a health technology startup as an AI Product Engineer in an AI-native engineering environment. You will solve product problems end-to-end, partner closely with product, design, and data specialists, and take ownership for both quality and outcomes. AI-assisted development, testing, and review are embedded across the software lifecycle, giving engineers more time to focus on intent, validation, architecture, and high-impact decisions.
Highlights
High-autonomy AI product engineering role in a startup environment, focused on measurable outcomes rather than ticket completion. Engineers own domains, work closely with product, design, and data teams, and use AI throughout development, testing, and review while maintaining strong emphasis on judgment and quality.
Description
AI Product Engineer
We're working with a startup in the healthtech space to find an AI Product Engineer for their engineering team.
This is a chance to join a company building an AI-native, outcome-oriented engineering culture, where AI tooling accelerates delivery but judgment and quality still lead.
About Our Client
Our client is building the next AI assistant for mental health.
Their engineers are empowered problem solvers, not ticket-takers, working in close partnership with product, design, and [data/other stakeholder] teams to drive real outcomes.
How the Team Works
Outcome-driven - engineers are given problems to solve, not just features to build.
Success is measured by impact, not velocityAI-native - AI is used across the SDLC to speed up implementation, testing, and review, so engineers can focus on intent, validation, and system designHigh autonomy, high accountability - real ownership over your domain, and real responsibility for quality and resultsCross-functional by default - discovery, experimentation, and delivery are shared with product, design, and dataQuality matters - reliability, observability, and correctness are first-class, not afterthoughts
What You'll Do
Own meaningful product areas end-to-end, from discovery through delivery and iterationDesign and evolve systems that support safe, scalable, AI-augmented developmentUse data and experimentation to validate whether solutions actually workPartner cross-functionally to balance user impact, business constraints, and technical trade-offsHelp shape how the team works - tools, processes, and culture
What Our Client Is Looking For
You start with "why" before jumping to "how"You're energised by ambiguity and enjoy shaping problems, not just solving defined onesYou use AI to amplify your own judgment and move faster on what mattersYou think in systems and anticipate second-order effectsYou want to own outcomes, not just ship tickets
Background
Strong production experience building product software in a startup or scale-up environmentExcellent TypeScript/Node capability, comfortable across APIs, services, data, and cloud infrastructureStrong product sense - you start from the user or business problem, not the implementationComfortable operating autonomously in ambiguous environments and making sound trade-offs with incomplete informationSolid testing, observability, and reliability instinctsFluent with AI-augmented engineering workflows, while keeping human judgment and QA discipline front and centre
Nice to Have
Experience in [regulated/specialist industry, e.g.
healthcare, fintech]Experience with event-driven systems, serverless AWS, relational database design, and infrastructure as codeExperience with experimentation, analytics, or growth/product instrumentationExperience across both backend and user-facing product surfacesExperience building products from 0 to 1 in an early-stage environment
