About Biolevate builds AI-powered software that turns unstructured scientific data into reliable, collaborative workflows for medical writing and regulatory work. Our platform helps scientists, clinicians and medical writers move faster while maintaining the rigor their work demands. Founded in Paris in 2024, we combine a commercial SaaS platform with in-house research in oncology and dermatology. It is an unusually practical place to work on AI: the systems we build are used both to advance scientific research and to help bring therapies to patients faster. Why this role exists Biolevate is building a cloud-native platform that supports a suite of applications for scientific work. At its core are the shared systems that make those applications possible: our knowledge base, agent-orchestration layer and reproducible workflow infrastructure. We are hiring a Software Engineer - Core to build and evolve these foundational capabilities. You will work on technically challenging systems with a direct connection to our roadmap, making the architectural decisions and engineering investments that enable reliable, scalable and high-quality product experiences over the long term. What you’ll own Design, build and operate core services and platform capabilities used across Biolevate’s applications.Develop and evolve systems such as our knowledge base, agent-orchestration layer and reproducible workflow infrastructure.Define and implement robust interfaces, APIs and data flows between core systems, AI services and product applications.Make sound architectural trade-offs across reliability, performance, security, scalability and long-term maintainability.Work closely with Product, AI, Platform and Product Engineering teams to translate roadmap needs into durable technical foundations.Improve engineering quality through strong testing, observability, traceability and operational practices.Contribute to technical direction and help raise the bar for code ownership and engineering excellence across the team. What success looks like After 3 months, you will have: Developed a strong understanding of Biolevate’s architecture, core systems and product roadmap.Shipped meaningful improvements to an existing core capability with support from the team.Established productive working relationships across Platform, AI and Product Engineering. After 6 months, you will have: Taken ownership of a substantial core service, system or technical domain.Delivered capabilities that make product teams faster, systems more reliable or workflows more reproducible.Improved a part of our technical foundations, such as service architecture, API design, testing, observability, performance or security. What will help you succeed Strong experience building and operating backend or distributed systems in production.Comfort designing reliable, maintainable services and APIs in a complex architecture.Experience working with one or more of Go, Python or Java, or an ability to learn and contribute quickly in these environments.Sound understanding of data flows, asynchronous processing, service-to-service communication and failure modes.A thoughtful approach to engineering quality: testing, observability, traceability, security and performance matter to you.Ability to work from an ambiguous technical or product problem through design, implementation, release and iteration.Ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly and collaborate closely with engineers across disciplines.Professional working proficiency in English. Our engineering environment Biolevate is built on a complex, cloud-native microservices architecture. Our engineering environment is organised around three complementary layers: Platform: shared foundations for observability, testing, traceability, security and reliable delivery across the company.Core systems: highly technical capabilities, including our knowledge base, agent-orchestration layer and reproducible workflow infrastructure.Applications: the business-facing tools that bring these capabilities to users, such as our editor, table and assistant. Our stack includes Kubernetes, Go, Python and Java on the backend, with Next.js and TypeScript on the frontend. We use technologies such as Protobuf, gRPC and Temporal to build reliable, scalable systems and workflows. The stack is representative rather than exhaustive.
