A senior electrical engineering role with end-to-end ownership of power systems, from busbars to grid connection points. You will work across projects spanning small distributed systems to large renewable generation and energy-storage installations, combining detailed engineering with hands-on execution.

Highlights

Own power-system engineering from the busbar through grid connection across projects ranging from small mini-grids to utility-scale renewable energy and storage. The role offers hands-on project execution, hardware engineering exposure, hybrid flexibility, and international work.

Description

Become part of our team! Do you want your drawings built instead of archived? We are looking for a senior electrical engineer to own the power system from the busbar to the grid connection point — on projects from a 50 kW mini-grid to utility-scale PV and storage, and in the hardware we build ourselves. Location: Pfullendorf, Germany (hybrid possible, with occasional international travel) Start date: November/December 2026. Type of employment: Full-time About Off-Grid Europe We design, source, finance, and build off-grid and grid-tied energy systems; and we engineer and manufacture our own hardware in Germany: the Ohms Box integrated BESS, the Much Cooler off-grid cold-storage hall, and the IoTEM monitoring stack. Since 2010 we have commissioned 300+ projects across Africa and Europe, from rural electrification to industrial and commercial applications. This is not a “corporate comfort zone.” We are looking for someone driven and independent in a fast-growing, execution-driven organisation; an engineer who sets the standard rather than inherits one. The Role You are responsible for the electrical design of everything we build — our own products and our EPC projects, LV to MV/HV, on-grid and off-grid. From the first single-line diagram to commissioning. Electrical design — LV, MV and HV SLDs/MLDs, protection and selectivity concepts and full design documentation from LV to MV and HV, for distribution as well as transmission interfacesMain AC distributions, busbars, breaker coordination; specification of MV/HV switchgear, transformers, protection relays and meteringLoad-flow, short-circuit, arc-flash and earthing calculations; cable sizing and routing; lightning and surge protectionComplete schematic sets in EPLAN Electric P8: circuit diagrams, terminal and cable schedules, BOMsGrid connection and compliance Support for grid connection applications, studies and compliance evidence, ideally with existing knowledge of VDE-AR-N 4110/4105, EN 50549, IEC 61936-1, IEC 60364 and IEC 61439.Reading an unfamiliar national grid code and extracting what actually binds the design, and documentation that survives review by utilities, owner’s engineers and lendersProduct engineering — our own hardware Developing and standardising the electrical platform of the Ohms Box and Much Cooler: design for manufacture, repeatable wiring, serviceability in hard-to-reach, dusty, 45 °C environmentsCE conformity and technical files — Low Voltage, EMC and Machinery Directives, IEC 62477-1, IEC 62933 — including type testing, FAT and SAT proceduresCommissioning support, protection settings and fault analysis with our international team, plus as-builts and O&M documentationHybrid architecture: PV + BESS + gensets, on-grid and off-grid Developing system architectures: AC- or DC-coupled topology, voltage levels, PV/storage/genset ratings, redundancyComponent selection and dimensioning: inverters, PCS, batteries, gensets, transformers, switchgearTurning a load profile into a defensible design (PVsyst, HOMER or equivalent) What you bring to the table Qualification & experience: Degree in electrical or power engineering and at least 5 years of experience in electrical design of power distribution and transmission systemsBESS & hybrid: Hands-on work with BESS systems and with PV/BESS/genset plants on-grid and off-gridTools & standards: Fluent in EPLAN Electric P8 for complete, buildable document sets, not sketches, and a working command of relevant IEC/EN, VDE and DIN. PowerFactory, ETAP or similar are strong advantagesStartup & entrepreneurial mindset: Think and act like a co-builder, not a corporate employee. Comfortable with incomplete structures, fast decisions and personal responsibility; building processes while executing, not waiting for perfectionLanguages: Business fluent English is a must. German is a strong advantage, French opens direct work with our West African teamsMobility: Willingness to occasionally travel to sites in Africa and EuropeNice to have: Schaltberechtigung up to 30 kV or eligibility as Verantwortliche Elektrofachkraft (VEFK); mini-grid experience; PLC programming We would rather hire an engineer with 80 % of this list and the judgement to say “I don’t know yet, here is how I’ll find out” than someone who ticks every box on paper. What we offer you A real design authority role with high autonomy and short decision paths Both worlds in one job: hardware you refine over generations, and EPC projects where your designs electrify villages around the worldHardware you can touch: Engineering, R&D and manufacturing all at our site in GermanyPermanent contract, 30 days annual leave, flexible hours, hybrid working, relocation support to the Lake Constance region, and a training budget for standards, tools and certificationsYour systems end up powering villages, hospitals or cold rooms that had a diesel bill or no power before you arrived Apply Now! Send your CV to recruitment@offgrideurope.com. Keep the cover letter short. But do include a paragraph about a system you designed: what the constraint was, what you chose, and what you would do differently today. A SLD you are allowed to share would add significant value.
