Description

About ROLLER ROLLER powers the technology behind millions of experiences at attractions and leisure venues around the world. Our platform helps operators manage ticketing, payments, point of sale, memberships, kiosks, digital waivers and more. The software we build operates in the real world, where reliability matters, edge cases are unavoidable and a technical decision can directly affect a venue's revenue and a guest's day. We operate across more than 30 countries and are growing towards one billion guest experiences annually. We are a team of smart, grounded people who care about our customers, take ownership of their work and hold a high bar without taking themselves too seriously. The role You'll join ROLLER's Product and Engineering team, working across the stack on capabilities at the heart of our platform. Depending on the team's priorities, that could include APIs, payments, integrations, reporting, point of sale, online checkout or the systems that help us operate reliably across different countries and regulatory environments. This is a hands-on role for an engineer who wants to own meaningful customer problems from discovery and design through delivery, production operation and iteration, backend and front end alike. You'll work closely with product managers and engineers on your team. You'll have room to form a view, challenge assumptions and make pragmatic technical decisions that balance delivery speed with security, reliability and long-term maintainability. Our backend runs on C#, .NET, T-SQL and AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, SES and SQS. On the front end, we use Angular alongside our own design system and component library. Why this work matters 🚀 Real scale and real consequences ROLLER runs at real scale: thousands of requests per second across hundreds of containers, powering over 100 million guest experiences in 2025 alone. That scale is the norm for us, and keeping it reliable is what our engineering team is built for. When it works, venues run smoothly and guests get on with celebrating birthdays, catching up with friends, or having a day out. When it doesn't, the impact is immediate: lost revenue for operators and a broken moment for someone who was meant to be having fun. The software you build directly affects the people running that venue, and the guests walking through the door. 🧩 Real-world complexity Our customers operate across different markets, regulations and operating models. You'll encounter problems involving transactions, localisation, privacy, compliance, integrations and customer-facing workflows. These are rarely textbook problems. They require curiosity, attention to context and the judgment to find a practical solution without creating unnecessary complexity. 🧠 Meaningful ownership You won't simply pick up isolated tickets. You'll build context around a problem space, help shape the solution, ship it, and stay close to what happens after release. What you'll do Design, build and maintain secure, scalable software across the stack, from backend services to the interfaces operators and guests use every dayDevelop APIs and integrations across ROLLER's platform, and build user-facing features using our design system and component libraryTake features from early discovery through technical design, implementation, release and iteration, working closely with product and engineering teammatesTroubleshoot production issues and improve reliability, performance, observability and maintainability as the platform scalesContribute to design discussions and code reviews, and help teammates improve without egoConnect technical decisions to customer and business outcomes About you You do not need to match every point. We are interested in engineers who demonstrate the underlying capabilities, even if their current stack is different from ours. You will likely bring: 3 - 5 years of professional software-engineering experience, although scope matters more than an exact numberFull stack experience, comfortable moving between backend services and the interfaces that sit on top of themA track record of building and operating APIs, services or transactional product systems in a product, SaaS or similarly fast-moving environmentSound engineering fundamentals across data modelling, testing, security, performance, cloud patterns and maintainabilityComfortable taking an ambiguous problem through to a practical outcome, and learning from production incidents or customer feedback along the wayClear communication, curiosity and the confidence to give and receive honest feedbackA willingness to work from our South Melbourne office three days per week Experience with C#, modern .NET and SQL Server is highly regarded. If your recent experience is in another modern backend language such as Java, Go, Kotlin or Python, we still want to hear from you if you have strong product-engineering fundamentals and are comfortable learning our stack. Useful, but not essential Payments or other transactional systemsPublic or partner-facing APIs and integrationsAWS or another major cloud platform, including high-availability services and CI/CDWorking in a startup, scale-up or high-ownership product team We are not expecting one person to be an expert in every area. How we work Our strongest engineers combine high standards with low ego. They seek context before jumping to a solution, know when to go deep and when a simpler answer is better, and take responsibility for what happens in production. You will have autonomy, but you won't be on your own. We back each other, argue about the right call and raise the bar together.
