Build the Intelligence Behind LookRoom AI
*Please read job description and requirements carefully before applying!
At LookRoom AI, we're building a fully AI-powered Personal Assistant designed around a simple principle:
Be As You Are.
LookRoom learns the individual - their wardrobe, schedule, preferences, habits, lifestyle, daily context and plans, and uses that understanding to progressively automate everyday appearance-related decisions.
We don't want AI to simply generate more recommendations.
We want it to understand the user well enough to reduce the number of decisions they need to make at all.
The result: less decision fatigue, less daily friction, and most importantly, time back to our users.
We're now looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - AI Systems & Platform to help build the technical foundation and intelligence layer behind that experience.
The Role
You'll work closely with the founding, product and frontend teams to design and build the backend architecture that connects:
User β Personal Context β Digital Wardrobe β AI Intelligence β Decision β Action β Feedback β Deeper Personalization
You'll have significant influence over the technical decisions we make at the Pre-MVP stage and how those decisions evolve as LookRoom enters the US market and begins scaling internationally.
We're looking for someone who can architect, build and ship - not only discuss architecture.
What You'll Build
1.
Personalization & User Intelligence Layer
Build the infrastructure that enables LookRoom to develop a continuously evolving understanding of each user.
This may include:
Personal preferences and style profilesWardrobe historyUser behavior and interactionsAccepted/rejected recommendationsOutfit and wearing historyLifestyle and contextual signalsFeedback and learning loopsThe goal is not generic personalization.
It's to make LookRoom increasingly feel like the user's own Personal AI Assistant.
2.
Digital Wardrobe Infrastructure
Help build the backend behind LookRoom's intelligent digital wardrobe, including:
Clothing and accessory dataImage and media managementItem attributes and metadataOutfit relationshipsWardrobe historySearch and retrievalUser-specific wardrobe intelligenceYou'll help transform a collection of clothing items into structured information that AI can understand and reason over.
3.
AI Orchestration & Decision-Making Systems
Build the application layer connecting LookRoom with LLMs, multimodal AI and other intelligence services.
This includes systems for:
Model/API orchestrationStructured AI outputsContext managementPrompt/workflow architectureTool and function callingModel selection and routingAI response validationCost and latency optimizationFailure handling and fallbacksWe don't see AI as simply:
Prompt β API β Response.
We want to build an intelligent system capable of combining multiple signals and progressively supporting the full decision-making process.
4.
Context-Aware Recommendations
Help build systems capable of combining information such as:
Wardrobe + Preferences + Weather + Calendar + Occasion + Destination + History + User Context
to produce highly personalized decisions and recommendations.
The challenge isn't simply determining what looks good.
It's understanding what is right for this particular person, in this particular situation, right now.
5.
Recommendation & Learning Loops
Design backend mechanisms that allow LookRoom to become better as users interact with it.
For example:
Recommend β User Action β Feedback β Learn β Improve
We want personalization to deepen naturally over time rather than requiring users to repeatedly explain themselves.
6.
Commerce & External Integrations
As the product evolves, help build integrations with external systems such as:
Fashion retailersProduct catalogsE-commerce platformsWeather servicesCalendar servicesThird-party AI servicesOther lifestyle and contextual data sourcesThe objective is eventually to help users not only decide what to wear, but also what, when, where and how to buy when something is genuinely needed.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a senior engineer with strong experience in areas such as:
Backend application architecturePython, Express/Node.js/TypeScript, or comparable backend technologiesREST and/or GraphQL APIsSQL and NoSQL databasesData modeling and database architectureAuthentication and authorizationCloud infrastructure - AWS, GCP or AzureDocker/containerized environmentsCaching and asynchronous processingQueues, background jobs and event-driven architectureCI/CDTesting and observabilityAPI securityPerformance and scalabilityYou don't need to match one predetermined technology stack perfectly.
We care more about your ability to make sound architectural decisions and explain why you made them.
AI-Native Engineering Experience
LookRoom is being built in the AI era, and we expect our engineering culture to reflect that.
Experience working with some of the following is highly valuable:
LLM APIsMultimodal AIStructured outputsFunction/tool callingAI agents and workflowsEmbeddingsVector databases / semantic retrievalRAG architecturesRecommendation systemsAI evaluation and monitoringModel routingAI memory/context systemsDirect experience with fashion AI, computer vision, 3D visualization, recommendation engines or personalization systems would be a significant advantage.
Advanced Vibe Coding
We consider advanced AI-assisted development a core engineering capability.
You should be highly comfortable working with tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or comparable AI development environments.
But we're not looking for someone who simply lets AI generate code faster.
We're looking for someone who can use AI to dramatically increase engineering velocity while still understanding, reviewing and taking full responsibility for:
ArchitectureSecurityPerformanceMaintainabilityTestingTechnical debtProduction reliabilityAI can write the code.
You still need to own the engineering.
Privacy & Security
LookRoom's personalization depends on users trusting us with increasingly rich personal context.
That makes privacy and security part of the product-not an afterthought.
You should understand good practices around:
Personal/user data protectionAuthentication and authorizationSecure API designEncryptionSecrets managementData access controlsLogging and monitoringThird-party API securityPrivacy-conscious system architectureExperience designing systems with US and international privacy requirements in mind is an advantage.
The Kind of Engineer We're Looking For
You'll probably be a strong fit if you:
Think about the product, not only the backendCan turn an ambiguous product requirement into a working technical solutionKnow the difference between architecture required for an MVP and unnecessary overengineeringBuild quickly without creating avoidable technical debtChallenge technical assumptions constructivelyTake ownership without waiting for detailed instructionsCan explain complex engineering decisions clearly to non-engineersAre comfortable working directly with foundersEnjoy building systems from 0 β 1Understand that early technical decisions can shape a company for yearsMost importantly, we want someone who asks:
"What are we trying to achieve for the user?"
before asking:
"Which technology should we use?"
Cooperation, Work Model & Compensation
PRE-MVP β Equity-Based | Hybrid
During our Pre-MVP stage, this is an equity-based cooperation opportunity, hybrid work model.
We're looking for someone who wants meaningful ownership and is comfortable helping build both the product and its technical foundations from an early stage.
PRE-MVP:
Equity + Hybrid
POST-MVP - Salary + Equity | Full-Time | On-Site
Following MVP and as LookRoom moves toward market entry and scaling, the position is planned to transition into a:
Salary + Equity + Full-Time + On-Site role.
The exact structure will depend on experience, contribution, responsibility, company stage and mutually agreed milestones.
Our Go-to-Market Direction
LookRoom AI is a US-based company with global ambitions.
Our planned market sequence is:
United States β Asia β Europe β Global
We're therefore designing the product and technical architecture with international scale in mind from the beginning.
Why Join Now?
Because this is the stage where an engineer can influence much more than code.
You'll have the opportunity to help define:
Architecture.
Engineering standards.
AI infrastructure.
Data strategy.
Technical culture.
And ultimately, how LookRoom's intelligence works.
You won't be joining an established backend team.
You'll help build its foundation.
