Principal AI Engineer - Agentic Systems

Help build the intelligence layer of an AI-native geospatial company. Lex & Winkle has partnered with an emerging AI-native geospatial intelligence company, as it builds a small, foundational technical team in Sydney. Our client is transforming satellite imagery, aerial imagery and location data into commercially valuable intelligence across sectors including renewable energy, insurance, defence, government and property. We're looking for a Principal AI Engineer - Agentic Systems to take ownership of the AI architecture and intelligence capability at the heart of the business. This isn't a traditional ML role focused on individual models. You'll work directly with the Founder alongside the incoming technical team to determine how LLMs, agentic systems, computer vision, automation and geospatial data come together to create scalable commercial products. What you'll own · AI architecture and technical roadmap · Production-grade agentic systems and intelligent workflows · Multi-agent architectures and orchestration · Retrieval, reasoning and knowledge systems · AI-enabled product capabilities · Computer vision across imagery and geospatial datasets · Production AI services within AWS · Technical standards and evaluation frameworks What we're looking for You'll have genuinely built and deployed AI systems into production rather than only experimenting with models and tools. We're particularly interested in experience across agentic AI, LLMs, LangChain, RAG, computer vision, Python, distributed systems, AWS and production AI/MLOps. Just as importantly, you'll bring commercial business experience alongside your technical depth. We need someone who thinks about what business users actually need, not just what makes an elegant AI architecture, and who can connect engineering decisions to products, customers and commercial outcomes. Australian citizenship is required, together with eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.
