Senior Platform Engineer - Backend, Cloud & DevSecOps

Build and secure the platform that turns AI and geospatial intelligence into products customers can use. Lex & Winkle has partnered with an AI-native geospatial intelligence company transforming satellite imagery, aerial imagery and location data into commercial intelligence across renewable energy, insurance, defence, government and property. We're looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to own the backend, API and cloud infrastructure that supports the AI and geospatial capabilities in production. This is a foundational technical hire that spans two disciplines that most companies treat as separate roles. At this stage, both scopes sit with one senior engineer who can operate across the full platform stack. What you'll own · Backend services, APIs and platform components in Python · AWS architecture, infrastructure and production environments · Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD automation · Kubernetes, Docker and container orchestration · Cloud security, IAM and DevSecOps discipline · Customer-facing applications and integrations · Monitoring, observability, incident management and resilience · MLOps and AI/geospatial production workloads · Cloud performance and cost optimisation · Secure software delivery and platform reliability What we're looking for You'll have hands-on experience building and operating production cloud environments, plus strong backend development capability in Python. The role sits at the intersection of application engineering and platform engineering, so we're looking for genuine capability across both. Just as importantly, you'll bring commercial business experience alongside your technical depth. We need an engineer who thinks about what business users actually need, not just what makes an elegant technical solution, so we build cutting-edge products that are commercially viable from day one. Technically, we're particularly interested in experience across Python, FastAPI, API and backend architecture, AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, DevSecOps practice, CI/CD, IAM, distributed systems and cloud-native software development. Experience with SaaS, AI-enabled products, data-intensive applications, geospatial systems, or government and defence environments would be highly valuable. We needs someone who moves quickly without compromising security, reliability or operational resilience, and who owns problems rather than waiting for someone else to define them. Australian citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance are required, with NV1 eligibility or higher strongly preferred.
