Role Description The DevOps Engineer role at Thistle Draftshop is a full-time, remote position focused on building and maintaining reliable, scalable, and secure systems that support the company’s digital presence and operations.
Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and managing infrastructure-as-code environments, improving CI pipelines, and ensuring stable deployments for applications and internal tools.
The DevOps Engineer will monitor system performance, manage Linux-based servers, perform root cause analysis for incidents, and optimize configurations for reliability and cost efficiency.
This role collaborates with software developers, operations, and leadership to automate workflows, enhance observability, and implement best practices in security, backups, and disaster recovery.
The DevOps Engineer will also contribute to documentation and continuous improvements in development and release processes.
Qualifications
Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills with tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar.Experience in Software Development and scripting (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript) for automation and tooling.Hands-on practice with Continuous Integration and delivery pipelines using platforms like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.Solid System Administration background, including managing Linux servers and troubleshooting production environments.Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization/orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch) and performance tuning.Understanding of networking fundamentals, security best practices, and infrastructure resilience.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly with cross-functional teams, and document processes.Previous experience in a small business, hospitality, or retail environment is a plus but not required.
