Pixels On Target | Sunrise, FL | Full-time, On-site
About the Role
Pixels On Target is seeking a Senior or Staff Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop software for advanced thermal optics and imaging systems used in demanding, mission-critical environments.
You’ll work hands-on with embedded Linux, camera and video pipelines, and low-level hardware integration to deliver high-performance, power-efficient products.
Working closely with hardware, systems, and product teams, you’ll guide technical decisions and solve complex challenges from board bring-up through production.
At the Senior level, you’ll own major subsystems and drive implementation, integration, and optimization.
At the Staff level, you’ll also lead architecture across subsystems, establish technical direction, and mentor engineers.
U.S.
citizenship or permanent residency is required due to the nature of our work.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for thermal optics and imaging systems.Build and optimize camera and video pipelines, including device drivers, camera control, and streaming performance.Develop embedded Linux platforms, including board support packages (BSPs), bootloaders, and board bring-up.Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems engineers to integrate hardware and software.Diagnose and resolve complex issues spanning hardware, kernel drivers, middleware, and applications.Optimize system performance, video latency, power consumption, and reliability.Own technical delivery for major subsystems, from requirements and design through validation and production support.Guide architecture decisions, conduct code reviews, and strengthen software development practices.Mentor engineers and communicate technical decisions and tradeoffs across teams.Support integration and optimization of AI/ML workloads on embedded platforms where applicable.Additional Staff-Level Responsibilities
Lead software architecture and technical direction across embedded subsystems and product platforms.Resolve cross-functional design tradeoffs and drive solutions to ambiguous system-level problems.Establish reusable platform capabilities and engineering practices that support long-term product development.Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Substantial experience developing embedded software for complex products, preferably in real-time or mission-critical environments.Demonstrated ownership of embedded subsystems through design, implementation, debugging, and release.Strong proficiency in C and C++, with working knowledge of Python.Strong experience with embedded Linux, including Yocto and/or Buildroot.Hands-on experience with device driver development, kernel-level programming, and hardware interfaces.Experience with board bring-up, BSP development, and bootloaders.Familiarity with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, and Ethernet integration.Strong hardware and software debugging skills using GDB, JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.Ability to explain technical tradeoffs, collaborate across disciplines, and work independently on complex problems. For Staff-Level Consideration
A track record of leading architecture and delivering embedded systems across multiple subsystems or products.Demonstrated technical leadership, including mentoring engineers and aligning teams on design decisions.Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Linux V4L2, camera control, and video streaming optimization.Knowledge of image signal processing (ISP) pipelines, camera tuning, and image quality troubleshooting.Familiarity with GStreamer or similar multimedia frameworks.Experience with RTOS platforms, such as FreeRTOS or Zephyr.Experience with low-power optimization, including dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) and power profiling.Familiarity with secure boot, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and embedded security practices.Experience integrating or optimizing AI/ML workloads on embedded processors or neural processing units (NPUs).Technical Environment
